People has been posting a lot of topics on this lately. Is there any cause to it?
It hasn't happened to me yet, but I'm scared to death of it happening because we've accomplished a lot, not to mention I downloaded like 17 songs.
So what causes it? And how can I avoid my memory being swiped?

Just don't turn the system off/back out to Wii menu unless you've backed completely out to the RB2 title screen.
The #1 cause of corrupt data is hasty user-error.

Thanks.
I never turn off any games off until I get back to the main menu anyway so I guess it's not much of a factor for me.

Every thread with this issue has also been homebrewing on their system (at least the few I've seen).

As far as your DLC, the free 20 songs don't matter. Any songs you payed with Wii Points are purchased and don't need to be bought again.

This happened to my system. I don't have any homebrew hacks on my system, and I ALWAYS back out completely to the title screen, and then to the main Wii menu screen before powering it down.

How long was your system on before locking/corrupting?

I used the system for about 3 hours, and it never locked up at all.
Everything saved fine according to the save data screen, and then I backed all the way out to the title screen and then the Wii menu before powering it off. The next time I started the game the data was corrupt and would not load. The system sits on a shelf all by itself, and it never overheats-I've played approx 7 hours of Mario Kart on the WFC without a problem, and it has NEVER had a save game data issue with any other game (we've got 14 games here that we play from time to time). IMO, the save game data files are unstable and prone to corruption, or the Wii does not save it in a stable form. This is just theory on my end, but from what I've seen all over the web, this is a serious problem and somebody needs to either work on the save data method,or they need to allow up to back it up to an SD card to prevent losing all of the data.

This tech is really new to the Wii, and it probably is more prone to corruption than other files... I'm sorry to say, but there's no real solution but starting over.
You can try to enter the same username on registration though... Which according to a post by HiroLord, will recover all of your lost friends and previous online records.
Best of luck, and keep on rockin'. Hopefully this hasn't discouraged you too much.

I already re-registered and used the same name,so that's not an issue, but of course my band name was lost...along with many hours of gameplay that had to be redone to unlock the music again. Hopefully Harmonix pays enough attention to the complaints and will work with Nintendo on resolving this random issue.

Since the Wii doesn't support title updates, there's not a whole lot that can be done short of re-releasing the entire game... It's the hardware limitations though, not the game.

You think they'd check out this problem, but I haven't heard from any HMX developer about this problem.
I'm scared to death of this happening to me, I know now that I can keep all my DLC, but I've FC'd so many songs and I have a LOT of band characters. Those are the things I worry about losing most.
