Here is my bass pedal mod.

The pedal is metal so I just connected the neutral to the back of the pedal with the smallest screw I could find.

The spring came out of the battery compartment of an old boom box.

I used velcro to attach the wood to the base of the pedal

Sorry. I guess I left that part out.

It works perfectly.

This looks like the easiest mod I've seen. So when the metal foot plate touches the spring it triggers the bass drum in-game?

I have a DW7000 collecting dust and I'd like to do this.

Thanks,
Chris

Hooray for Pearl pedals! This looks pretty damn simple, so I might just have to try it :)

Yep that's the gist of it. The only damage to the pedal is the small hole for the screw. Using Velcro to attach the wood to the pedal allows you to adjust the spring forward or backward to make contact at the right time. I don't know how well it would work without a practice pad though.

And really you don't even need to insert a screw into the pedal. You could just solder the wire directly to the side of the footboard.

If you play barefoot, do you get juiced?

I tried that first but was having trouble getting the solder to stick to the pedal. Plus I like that I can pull the mod off with a twist of the screw and rip of the Velcro to put the pedal back on my drums then easily put it back together for Rock Band.

I've played it barefoot with no shock.

this isnt a bad idea. i spent a while making a wooden mount for a button that didnt work well at first. its actually working pretty good but the button is being depressed slightly before the beater hits the practice pad.. i may break this button soon. i will try the spring method next probably.

I have no worries about this thing breaking.

I've set the spring to make contact when the beater is about an inch from the pad so it won't be set off by any little twitch.

Who will make the first double bass mod? ;)

Who will make the first double bass mod? ;)

I've said it before on other threads, and I'll say it again:

Why?

There's no songs currently in this game that require double bass pedals. They are all specifically designed to be played with one pedal. And they all CAN be played with one pedal.

Until they release a Dragonforce or Slayer DLC pack, I can't see any reason for this ;)

The only thing a double-kick pedal would do for me is make my fills and Big Endings that much cooler, since I use double-kick all the time with my real music. But really, pointless in this game.

Well, my pedal just broke in half... went to guitar center and bought the cheapest pearl pedal they had, set me back 60 bux tho.... :-/

Just curious, is the wire you're using just the one from the original rock band pedal? did you just snip it off from the regular pedal? just wanna clairify this before i go chopping it up past the point of no return.

Thanks for the input guys,

Wes

all you need is an 1/8" mono cable from radio shack. if you cut it open there are two wires. when those two wires touch, it triggers the kick drum

or in the case of the pedal in this thread, when the two wires are touching two pieces of metal that tough (spring to pedal) it triggers. or if you solder them up the terminals of a button and push the button it triggers

Why not make a circuit using the drum beater with a metal plate on it that hits another metal plate on a wood block or practice pad?

Why not make a circuit using the drum beater with a metal plate on it that hits another metal plate on a wood block or practice pad?

That would be much more complicated. How do you fasten the metal plate to the beater where it won't fly off. How do you manage the wire connected to the beater that is constantly moving. How do you keep the noise of metal banging against metal from making the drummer (and anyone else in the area) want to kill the person who came up with this idea.

We had that idea at first as well, but as McPostal said it just didn't end up being really all that practical.

It's certainly a good concept for an idea, since it would be the most natural with the pedal and the beater you could use momentum and hit it just sweet enough for a double kick with a single motion.

We thought maybe if we use a momentary switch that the beater can collide with in some fashion would be the possible solution, so you don't have to have the beater itself wired up, however that still doesn't have a solution for the noise as well as a solution for quickly pulverizing the switch to dust, it would need to be protected from actual direct contact from the beater, and when you do that you run the possibility of not activating accurately enough.
