What materials are the best for sound absorption for a room with acoustic drums??

I think they're called sound absorbers. :D

Anyway, you should go check a music store, they'll have the perfect answer.

My friends band gets carpet and just nails it up any where they can. You can also go to Home Depot and get some Sound Board I think its called.... just big squares of a hard material that absorbs sound I believe.

depends on how quiet you want it and how much dough you wanna spend.
a really good cheap way is a layer of blankets against the wall, then a layer of foam egg crate (im not sure what its actually called, thats just what we always called it) then another layer of blankets on top of that.

Foam Insullation in the walls right from the get go. Not just outer walls (inner walls never get any to begin with). Layer of tar paper or sound board over a thin layer of drywall, then another layer of dry wall.
I play in the basement, and between a dropped ceiling with soundboard on both sides, and the walls done, you can barely even hear the drum from the sound booth in the basement, let alone the rest of the house.
If you intend to remain living where you are for years, invest properly - its worth it.
