Some of you may remember my top 25 greatest guitarists of all time thread, and my number one choice being Slash.
A lot of you didn't like that choice.
Well, I'm probably going to change your mind:

While he may be perhaps my FAVORITE guitarist, he is not the best I realize. I think he belongs in an argument for the top 10, in company with:
Eric Clapton
Jimmy Page
Hendrix
Duane Allman
Kirk Hammett
Stevie Ray Vaughn
George Harrison
B.B. King
Brian May
Tom Morello
I could probably go on and swap some of these guys out with other guys. It's so damn tough, although I suppose if I had to put a few guys at the top Clapton and Hendrix are rocks.

Slash is a good guitarist, but I'd hardly call him the best let alone in the top 3-5 in the world.
Theres not really any way to say whos the definative "best" though. Every guitarist has his/her own style and everyone that listens to them has their own opinions on what the "best" is.
Unless a guitarist plays a riff or solo that causes EVERYONE INCLUDING CHILDREN to enjoy it, they are not "the best guitarist in the world".
So as you can see from my scientific testing, its kinda hard to decide :o

You talk like one of my childhood friend who used to say that if we climbed trees, we'd fall from it one day, inevitably, because he felt.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say debating how "great" a musician is is pretty silly. Why waste time arguing minimalism over virtuosity, x guitarist vs y guitarist, when you can just listen to their music?

Slashboi, you don't have to try to make people like slash. If you he is your favorite guitarist then that's fine. Yes Slash has skill, but he is not the best or favorite guitarist in everyones eyes. I like him too, but he isn't my favorite either.
My favorite would probably be Robin Finck. I liked him since NIN and then when he came to GNR that was awesome. Can't wait to see NIN this year.

I'm actually kind of surprised no one has posted anything from outside of his GnR work. Much as I liked his playing there I thought some of his best stuff was outside of GnR.
Great tone and feel in both of these clips. Really like the middle and outo solo's in the 2nd clip. Outro solo begins at about 3:35.
