View Full Version : Rock Band takes up massive memory!

Well I'm getting Rock Band tonight in 14minutes but I've already downloaded the Mettalica pack and Joker and The Thief. That alone takes up much MUCH more memory than a game I have almost beaten. Anyone want to say just how much memory rock band will take?

I'll say this:
My Rock Band has its own HDD.

How much memory does a DLC song use? You figure an mp3 is usually 3 to 5 megs, so I am expecting a 3-pack download to be at least 15 megs, but can anyone advise if that is in the ballpark?

Not sure if you're using 360 or PS3 (or if there's much difference), but the PS3 3-song packs are around 100MB prior to install. I have no idea if they are further inflated during that process or not.

My recollection is that the Metallica Pack comes in at about 50 megs on the XBox 360. That's for over 22 minutes of awesome.

That sucks! I have yet to download any songs yet and now I'm scared to because I only have the 20gig HDD which is almost full anyway. I hope I don't have to go out and buy the bigger one just to download a few songs on Rock Band, even though I want the bigger drive but that's besides my point.

Relax Harsher. It looks like 3 songs is around 100 MB average. I don't expect there will be 600 DLC songs out there any time soon. Plenty of time to save up for another drive. You just need to trim the fat on your existing drive until then. The files are a little larger than I thought they would be, though.

I don't know man. I'm paranoid. Especially when albums come out. Just me. But then again I had the extra HDD lying around so me reserving one for RB wasn't too conscience a decision.

It's more than just an MP3, each song has custom animations and lights shows for each venue.

Plus that's only one track. And a pretty compressed track at that.

I've still got about 40 GB of space left on my PS3, and, frankly, most of it will probably be used for Rock Band DLC over the next couple of years.
I'm beginning to feel like I'll never need to play another game again...

From the songs I've downloaded, they appear to be about 12mb per minute of song.

So if 3 songs is 100 megs then about 30 songs will be a gig. I think my 80 gig ps3 can handle rock band's dlc.

I just bought a 250gb internal drive from Egghead so I wouldn't have to worry about ever running out of memory...BUT, I've heard that you cannot copy your save or do a backup utility before switching out the drive. Can anybody confirm if this is true???
I would hate to have to redo my 2 solo tours and start BWT over!!

I checked mine today and it was actually possible to copy the save game.
I have no idea how or when that changed, because the other day, it wouldn't copy.

Patch please, Harmonix!!
Too much time invested in this game to start over from scratch!
It's a good thing I didn't start making my Ace Frehley yet, I guess...

I just tried to copy onto a Pro-Duo stick, and I got the message:
"Copying of this saved data is not allowed".

Wow, that bites.
For some reason, I was remembering that the copy option wasn't available, and when I saw that it was today, I thought they had changed it.
Thinking back, though, I got the message you mention here when I tried to test the problem last week.
Sorry to have muddled things.

My Metallica pack was 142 megs on my PS3. I was very surpriced. But it's pretty high quality though. It wasnt half assed at all.
