Crap.

Not the best choices for tracks mind you, but it's Queen.

Where's our Queen in RB?

Damn, I would download that three-pack in a heartbeat. Yeah, Queen - Freddie Mercury + Paul Rodgers < classic Queen, but C-lebrity is a good tune. I've not heard of any exclusivity agreement between Queen and GH, so hopefully it's only a matter of time before we see some Queen in RB.

more Hendrix too

I remember people saying they would need something epic to match up with SRV and Ten...

Hmn, I might have to pick up the Hendrix tunes again. The first pack was good.
I like Queen a lot, but these are some really poor track choices, so I can happily leave them be.

another blunder for activision on the queen tracks,,,,great songs to listen to, no fun to play...*sighs*

Hendrix is a fantastic guitarist, but...frankly...I haven't liked any of his songs in GH yet....

We Are the Champions & Fat Bottomed Girls? Come on folks, these are two of Queen's most *classic* tracks (and greatest hits)...

Quite disappointed that GH now has a Queen 3 pack, particularly given the amount of people requesting Queen music for Rock Band. :(

Good groups, poor choices. Not like we haven't heard people say the same of HMX before, but this definitely falls under the category of "dropped the ball." Now if Under Pressure or All Along the Watchtower were being released, well, that would be a huge deal... As it is, these are just notable groups, not notable songs from a gameplay perspective.

The first half of March is a wash.. that's ok, more money for RB2 DLC. :) I may pick up 1 of the Jimi (Foxy Lady) and 2 of the Queen (We Are the Champions and Fat Bottomed Girls) tracks. But I wish they had chosen Killer Queen, that was fun in GH.

How is it anyone is able to tell whether these tracks will be fun to play when they're not due for release for another 3 weeks?

I certainly love playing along with these songs on my '89 Les Paul...

...which will join the more than 550 songs rocking the Guitar Hero catalog already.

What kind of special math are they using to get to 550 tracks? Is that across all Guitar Hero games ever?

I swear that's Brian Bright. What a tool.

As I said in another thread:

HA HA HA HA HA HA!!! They're getting "C-Lebrity". All I can say is "wow, how crappy". Actually, that pack doesn't really interest me at all (even though I'm a HUGE Queen fan). "Fat Bottomed Girls" is a decent enough track, but definitely not one of their best, "We Are The Champions" is grossly overplayed and "C-Lebrity" is just a pain to the ears to listen to.

However, that being said, just because Queen are showing up in GH:WT does not mean that they are exclusive, nor does it mean that we won't be getting any Queen any time soon. For all we know right now we could be getting Queen next week.

IF Queen rights were obtained at the tail end of last year, it stands to reason that their tracks would be in the pipeline right now, and depending on how many tracks were obtained (12 pack? 6 pack? 3 pack? Album?) it may be a little bit before they arrive.

I remember someone here asking a HMX member at an E3-like event last year why there was Queen in GH and none in RB yet, and the response was surprise and saying that they would get their legal team on it asap (if I remember correctly). Anyways, we may see some soon is what I'm saying, no need to panic yet.

Back to this Post:
They really did drop the ball on this one in a huge way. A lot of people complain about song choices for Rock Band, but this is just mind-boggling at best. I never thought I would see the day when I wouldn't be excited about a Queen pack coming to one of these games. For The Record, I would have chosen "The Show Must Go On", "I Want It All" and "Death On Two Legs (Dedicated To...)" for a 3 pack

Of course it's across all the games, can't make it look like you're being trounced by the competition so badly every week that there is no way in hell that you're going to be able to catch up.

Activision doesn't care about facts at all, all they care about is their public image. They'll even go so far as to blatently lie so as to make themselves look better.

I'd take "Headlong" in a second! Hell, throw that in with the other 3 I mentioned "Scandal" and something like "Under Pressure" (for commercial appeal) and you've got yourself a guarenteed sale from me, even if you were to price it at $50 a pack

What's sad about that is that it's by far one of their worst tracks. It's nice to see some WT in a rhythm game, but I just can't get excited about their newer stuff (although The Howling is all right).

Yeah I did the math a few weeks ago.

If you add up all the songs from GH1-3, Rocks the 80s, GH:A, GH:M, and GHWT AND all the DLC from every GH game(not counting dupes from GH1 re-released on 2), you get about 550 odd tracks.

So that's some fun use of the word 'catalog' right there ;)

I really hope that Queen is not an exclusive band and that the reason we have had none is that HMX is creating a massive pack for them like The Who. Out of the Queen tracks listed, Fat Bottomed Girls would be an instant buy, and probably one of the greatest party songs to ever be. Well, at least we know that Queen has usable master tracks.

Anything from Hendrix is probably going to be a great addition to that game. The fact that Queen is showing up in GH:WT likely means RB has also been able to get their hands on it so I'm excited for that possibility. I'm absolutely baffled at the song choices for this Queen pack though.

As a Bond fan, I'd much rather see the James Bond theme come to Rock Band since I don't have GH:WT and have no desire to get it. But I doubt it ever will.

03-03-2009, 11:45 AM
I actually purchase GH:WT the second week of its release, and then put it away the third week. This weekend I started playing the game again on guitar. I think it's challenging, but not as fun as Rock Band.

With that said, I will buy at least two of the Queen songs. I totally love "Fat Bottomed Girls" and "We Are the Champions". I would have loved "Keep Yourself Alive" or "Now I'm Here" or any of the older stuff instead of "C-lebrity" but hey... I'm no exec, so I gotta deal with it.

Perhaps Rock Band will get some Queen soon? I don't mind buying it twice if I can get it on Rock Band eventually...

If we're talking choices for a Queen 3 pack, here's mine:

Keep Yourself Alive
Spread Your Wings
Dead on Time

I absolutely love "Spread Your Wings", I think it's a gorgeous song, but I don't think it'd work great for Rock Band. Not until we're going with a vocal-heavy pack at any rate. My picks for a Queen pack in Rock Band would, I think, have to be:

"Let Me Entertain You"
"Headlong"
"Brighton Rock"

But really, let's face it, I'll take any Queen in Rock Band. Or, well, any Freddie Queen. Bring it on Harmonix.

ARGH! I DON'T WANT TO BUY IT! YOU CAN'T MAKE ME, NEVERSOFT!

...I think I need to find some Rock Band DLC to buy to use up my points so I won't be tempted. :D (Side note for those curious: I don't like the GH games enough to deem them worthy to buy DLC for. Yes, I own the game, but at the price of the DLC - no. I'd rather save my points for songs in Rock Band.)

See, and people thought GHWT wouldn't have any decent DLC to compete with Pearl Jam. Ten is great, but IMO Queen beats Pearl Jam. Even one track would beat Ten to me. :( Queen really, really needs to come to Rock Band. Srsly.

Ouch, hopefully this will be a case of GH first, RB second. I really don't want to buy any GH:WT songs, but these are mighty tempting. (Still no Killer Queen, though)

What about goofy Queen songs? Like Bicycle Race? If GHWT had decent vocals, I'd love to sing that for the goofy factor. That's why I NEED Singstar Queen. Yes, it's a need, not a want. :)

You remind me of my boyfriend. I was playing Guitar Hero Aerosmith the other day and got to Livin' on the Edge. He starts singing Weird Al's Livin' in the Fridge out of nowhere. I somehow didn't mess up even though I laughed hard enough I got tears in my eyes. He's sad Like a Virgin is no longer available as DLC for Karaoke Revolution American Idol Encore, since he wanted to sing Like a Surgeon.

I'm boring, apparently. I almost always sing the real words to songs. But when people make up stuff I find it super hilarious. Makes playing with people who do that more fun.

Man, the best ones are the made-up ones, or the completely unintentional ones! We've made some very, very dirty on-the-spot parodies of Livin' on a Prayer, Dirty Little Secret, Don't Fear the Reaper, and a few other songs. Playing while fighting back the tears is the best feeling in the world, we don't even give a damn if we fail and have to restart :)

Also, our cat-inspired versions of "Rockaway Puss" and "Last Train to Pussville" are much better than the originals. :D

Queen AND Hendrix? Good luck topping that HMX.

Don't even try to argue with Fat Bottomed Girls,We are the Champions,Angel or Foxy Lady and especially don't try to argue those well known classics with songs most people don't or barely know.

C-Lebrity and Freedom aren't the best choices though. However, perhaps part of the deal to get the 2 classic well known songs for Queen was to include a new one. As I recall RB had 3 NEW Motley Crue songs before getting Dr. Feelgood. The only possible reason to go with Freedom is they're saving Voodoo Child for the next game. (Assuming All Along the Watchtower would have to be lisenced from Dylan)

I'm also buying In the Shadows,I like that song.

Considering they've sold fewer albums total in the US than Pixies' album "Doolittle" sold by itself...

...yeah, they'd be a small band.

These more prog-oriented bands have significant recognition and support among certain music circles, but it doesn't change the fact that they don't really sell all that well.

I didn't mean they themselves were small. I just meant the genre is a small niche here in North America. It's much bigger in Europe. <3 WT, I'm probably going to pick up GH:WT now that they're getting that song.

Fat Bottomed Girls is alright (never cared much for it... dunno why)... dunno about the last one... not familiar with it.

It would be cool if any game put in more animations for the singer on Queen songs... not sure if Mercury had any signature moves but his motion is quite distinct, to say the least.

I'm gonna conspire and say that Harmonix one-ups GH:WT by releasing a Queen 6-pack next week, unexpectedly, just like they did with Boston.

Also, I like Within Temptation and I simply do not care for "What Have You Done." Out of Within Temptation's broad and unique discography, they picked the most angsty, radio-vanilla, Evanescence-carbon copy song they composed?

I'm gonna conspire and say that Harmonix one-ups GH:WT by releasing a Queen 6-pack next week, unexpectedly, just like they did with Boston.

Also, I like Within Temptation and I simply do not care for "What Have You Done." Out of Within Temptation's broad and unique discography, they picked the most angsty, radio-vanilla, Evanescence-carbon copy song they composed?

Give it a listen. It's quite boring, instrumentally.

It's better than nothing. I don't mind the song myself, though I would've preferred something from Mother Earth or The Silent Force instead. Still, What Have You Done was enough to make me cave and get GH:WT. I'll also be picking up the Queen pack, the Killers pack, the Smashing Pumpkins pack, and possibly others.

Well, it's your money.

I understand the mentality behind using that song, perhaps. It was their most popular U.S. single (if not their only one, if I recall correctly), so releasing a song that the general audience might be familiar with is probably a better move than releasing some of their more purist tracks.

Within Temptation has never had very intricate guitar work, as most of what the instrument did was lay down a hard-edged background texture for the classical accompaniment and Sharon's vocals. There are many exceptions, but a lot of Mother Earth and The Silent Force tends towards sustained power chords and little else. The Heart of Everything is probably much heavier than everything else they've done, except perhaps Enter.

Heh,
These songs blow. Releasing Live tracks as DLC in general sucks, as the songs are often performed much differently than the masters.

Sadly, HMX and Activision load up on masters because they're cheaper to license :p

And vocals are sometimes muffled and almost always differently timed/pitched. Some good examples are the Purple Haze Live on the GHWT disc - wretched and ugly are the words I'd use to describe it, as well as the first Jimi pack and some of the songs on the AC/DC track pack.

The vocals aren't muffled on Purple Haze. The different timing and pitch thing is true, yeah, but that's always true on a different version of the song - it's really hard to sing a song the same exact way twice. And it's always going to sound different live because there's less audio magic you can do to pretty it up, you don't have the luxury to keep redoing things over to make it sound perfect, etc.

The only problem I have with Purple Haze is the fact that it exists in GHWT and GHWT has a horrible vocal scoring system.

I agree that much of their stuff would be rather dry in terms in difficulty, but I've never been one to associate challenging songs with fun. I'd rather play Teen Age Riot over Painkiller personally, even though Teen Age Riot is mostly holding down the red fret for three minutes on bass. Something about playing songs I really like to hear makes them exceptionally fun for me, even if I sit there playing the same note forever and day.

I think most of their stuff would be excellent on vocals though, which just happens to be my second instrument of choice :D

If GH gets anymore symphonic metal bands (Epica, After Forever, Kamelot, etc.), I may begrudgingly give them some kudos :p

Agreed.

There are some other Jimi songs I would have preferred, but you really can't argue... it's freaking Jimi.

Bass sounds a little more varied (WHEN IT'S THERE), but the drums stand out in many songs. They don't sound particularly complex or polyrhythmic, but they have a very hard driven sound and have interesting and unique patterns.

Do want some Epica and Kamelot, plx. HMX, make it happen. D<

Epica would be amazing on drums. Too bad I can't play them beyond medium :p

I kind of wish if they did add Epica, that they'd chart some parts to the orchestra. Especially during a song like The Divine Conspiracy.

GH gets Queen and all the RB fanboys still trash the game. its fat bottomed girls and we are the champions, those are two of queens best songs!

I'd prefer to also have Another One Bites The Dust and, you know, Killer Queen. I am of the opinion that it is only a matter of time until RB gets Queen because, you know, Rock Band is the superior game, superior platform, etc. Unlike most others, I do not agree with Bohemian Rhapsody. Legendary song, yes, but it would be a shame to see it become known as a BORING song to play because of the limited rock instrumentality in it. Maybe they could make it a special song where you can plug in four microphones instead of just one...

Daemius: I'd personally like to see Quietus in the game. Yeah, I know, single, but it's a really unique song. And I like the almost piratey sound it has to it. :D

More like "The Beatles? Good luck topping that Neversoft."

 RB is getting Beatles DLC and THIS month? Why was I not informed?

Looking at the recent GH Queen releases, this pisses me off to no end.

GH:M gets "Stone Cold Crazy"
GH:WT gets "We Are the Champions", "Fat-Bottomed Girls" and "C-lebrity"
GH:GH gets "Killer Queen"

That's 5 songs spread across 3 games. 3 games costing about 210 bucks here brand new (plus the points to download the Queen pack for GH:WT, if you want to be picky). A perfect example of why I hate Activision's business decisions and adore Harmonix's approach to selling song downloads.

Now I kind of want someone to start whining about the Rock Band AC/DC pack costing too much so that I can tear into them :(

And I look at it and think it'll cost me about $30 to import SingStar Queen from the UK when it comes out... granted, I'm missing out on the full band thing, but let's face it, everybody wants to sing Freddie's stuff :)

Honestly, what you`ve suggested is probably what we`ll end up doing.

As much as I want to play Queen in a whole band game, picking up that many games seems wasteful, even to a collector like myself.

Bohemian Rhapsody would be no less fun than Baba O'Reilly, in my opinion.

Still, my most wanted song would be Don't Stop Me Now.

I assume that Queen will come to RB eventually. If GH had exclusitivity they'd be bragging about it or announcing GH: Queen or something.

Baba O Reilly is an epic amazing song, so it doesn't matter if there are notes all over the place to me. It is just fun to play because it is such a great song.

Ditto for Bohemian Rhapsody, except for the fact that the guitar ad drum parts WOULD be epic, as well as vocals.

I'd be much more excited about this if these packs were coming out for Rock Band. I'm really not a fan of GH:WT's UI and Neversoft's charting.

Agree with this. It is good to see Queen coming out so hopefully HMX will get there hands on some.

I feel like it's only a matter of time until Queen comes to Rock Band...Paul Rodgers, who's currently singing for Queen, already has two tracks in the game, with Bad Company's Shooting Star on disc and Free's All Right Now out as DLC...I'd be totally OK with having new Queen released as DLc if it meant we cold get some classic hits on RB (although I'd hope for more than just three songs)

I think I'd actually like a big, custom "best of" set, like they did with The Who.

Also, on the "how I would do it" front: I think a very interesting way to do Bohemian Rhapsody would be to play it like the current Queen does in live concerts, with the singer doing a virtual duet with the prerecorded Freddie Mercury.
