This game needs more more punk, pop - punk, modern punk, and punk of any other variety.

I suggest some song packs including

Taking Back Sunday (Cute without the E is the quintessential punk rock song of the emo generation)

The Used (particularly including songs from their self-titled album such as The Taste of Ink, and Box Full of Sharp Objects)

Yellowcard (and let's be realistic. Yellowcard implies Ocean Avenue's awesome tracks like Life of a Salesman)

Green Day (everything... but Basket Case in particular)

Thrice (I really like Phoenix Ignition and Artist in the Ambulance)

My Chemical Romance (Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and Black Parade were both awesome)

Bright Eyes (i don't think this is a possibility cause of licensing but I can hope for Lover I don't have to Love)

The Academy Is... (One of my favorite bands ever, and their album, Almost Here is amazing in all regards)

The Rocket Summer (another favorite band and, at the least, the song, Cross My Heart, deserves to be recognized)

Brand New (The last of my favorite bands, but certainly Deja Entendu is pretty universally respected)

Paramore (Misery Business)

Anberlin

AFI (more)

Red Jump Suit Apparatus

Atreyu[/B

[B]Bayside[/B

[B]Cartel

I'm sure I could keep going, and I do commend the people at Harmonix for already including songs from bands such as Coheed and Fall Out Boy, as well as classic punk like the Clash and the Ramones. I just think that not enough games emphasize punk rock, or modern punk. If I wanted more classic rock, I'd play GH, but I think Rock Band is moving in the right direction with fun songs for download like Buddy Holly.

rock band doesnt mean Rock Groups
it means
Rock band is a generic name to describe a group of musicians specializing in a particular form of electronically amplified music.

The only punk band on there is Green day at least they kept it real until American idot but even that wasent that band some of jesus of suburbia is awsome (BTW that would be an amazing song to play) And St. Jimmy is pure punk just put in the punk opera style.

I wasn't sure what to classify them as...

but I've found that Punk has grown to be quite the catch all phrase...

it's a culture and, as a band, if you look punk, you probably call yourself punk. I don't feel like disputing it.

Anyway, you can tell me all day long that not everything on Wikipedia is true, but wikipedia classifies many of the bands in this genre as part of the punk revival, as Pop Punk bands.

I mean, if Simple Plan, Blink 182, Sum 41 count, then why not Taking Back Sunday or Yellowcard?

ha, well i don't learn about music from anywhere really. I don't even watch MTV. I just listen to music and I play guitar. I'm not even very good and I'm no music theorist.

I ran a search on what punk music is. I figured, other people have to call these bands "punk bands" for a reason, even if you might not agree. Personally, I'd classify a lot of bands as punk. Most of these are Pop-Punk, or Emo bands, but I have a lot of friends in Ska bands, and they call themselves punk in a way, too.

In any case, I didn't think I needed to list any more true punk, since most of the songs I was familiar with are already part of the available song list.

Simple plan blink 182 and sum 41 are Pop Punk
which is different from Punk different style of music
and you said nothing about culture of punk
just next time maybe look up the bands before you say their punk just for example

Punk is described on wikipedia as

"Punk rock is an anti-establishment rock music genre and movement that emerged in the mid-1970s. Preceded by a variety of protopunk music of the 1960s and early 1970s, punk rock developed between 1974 and 1977 in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, where groups such as the Ramones, Sex Pistols, and The Clash were recognized as the vanguard of a new musical movement."

"Alternative rock encompasses a diverse set of styles?including indie rock, gothic rock, and grunge, among others?unified by their debt to punk rock and their origins outside of the musical mainstream"

Call this thread Alternative rock its not punk

Im posting this cause it mady me laugh
"emo was a less musically restrictive style of punk developed by participants in the Washington, D.C. area hardcore scene. It was originally referred to as "emocore", an abbreviation of "emotional hardcore". Notable early emo bands included Rites of Spring, Embrace, and One Last Wish. The term derived from the tendency of some of these bands' members to become strongly emotional during performances. " HAHAHA losers emo sucks

You will rarely see REAL punk in this game, and as much as I would like to play it...I think it is a good thing that they remain out of it. Because, simply put, MTV does not = punk. NoFX for one has stated they want absolutely nothing to do with the channel since day 1. The only reason you saw a DK song in GH3 was because Jello has no say now, it's all East Bay Ray and Co. selling the rights. Personally I live by the standard; if you see it on MTV, chances are it isn't really punk. I'm not pointing fingers or even suggesting band x is a sellout because they made a video and put it on MTV. Some punk bands, however, still have that ethos and aren't for a mainstream/lowest common denominator music business plan. So, I would love to see some of those bands listed (the real ones, not the original posters) but I very highly doubt it.

Green Day is the closest thing to Punk Rock on that list. All the rest are pop. Nobody likes pop as much as punk. Learn your genre's. Sum 41 is a must if any punk rock band were added.

bklynpnk
12-03-2007, 01:26 AM
Sum41, in my opinion, goes along side most of what was originally listed. There were a couple songs on does this look infected that made me say "this isn't that bad". Most sounds like MTV generation pseudopunk.

This is all we need for a punk list, I will also include some bands that aren't necessarily "punk" but fans of punk like them.

Rancid (you gotta have rancid)
Old AFI
Anti-Flag
Choking Victim (how cool would 500 channels be to play?)
Dropkick Murphys
The Tossers (maybe?)
Aquabats (not necessarily punk)
Whole Wheat Bread (more of pop punk, but pretty cool nonetheless)
Danzig
Misfits (before Danzig left)
Ska-P
I guess some Sex Pistols, I'm not too big of a fan of some of the older bands, sorry

some non punk
Molotov
Rage Against the Machine
System of a Down

Im starting to run out of ideas now. Maybe I'll put some more up later.
