View Full Version : RB Guitar with GH3...Why doesn't it work?

Okay, so I just re-read the statement from EA concerning the compatibility issues for the PS3. They basically state that anyone who wants to make a controller for RB is more than welcome, and in fact, "Rock Band supports an open standard." So, with this line of thinking, why doesn't the RB guitar work with GH3?

EA goes on to say, "if a peripheral or controller doesn't work with Rock Band, then the manufacturer has done something to prevent it from working with Rock Band." Then, it would seem, the manufacturer of RB guitars has done something to prevent playing nice with GH3, unless of course, GH3 is set up to not accept anything that isn't the GH3 guitar.

I guess I am just reaching the ramble stage, but as many have stated before me. Why can't all the guitars work with all the games. Man that would be great.;)

Yeah that's what the public really wants, but they don't really care about that. You're Activision, what do you care whether your guitar works on someone else's game? It's not YOUR game, and you only want the public playing YOUR game anyway.

That's the kind of thinking that they just can't get past. They don't care about us, it's all about the almighty dollar. Not that that's news to anyone.

If PS3 owners get patches so the GH3 controller works in RB, and vice versa, that'll be because the two big boys - that's EA and Activision - are actually working together for the good of the common gamer.

Frankly, pigs might fly.

Wouldn't making the GH3 controller work with Rockband be profitable for Activision since guitars are coming out for Rockband only in February? Not to mention that strum issues in the first batch may lead people to buy GH3 at $100 for a better guitar. Forget the game, Activision could sell alot of stand alone guitars if it worked for RB.

no... cause every one who was gonna buy gh3 for the guitar for rock band already did. figuring they would get gh3 to hold them over until rb came out. then use the guitar for RB.

i dont see them fixing it anytime soon with out hmx/ea paying activision to do it. RB is superior and activision knows this. given the choice most people would probably opt for RB.
so come feb activision profits would significantly drop. which they will anyway. but they have spent so much money investing in slash cameos and ads. that right now they win. they will out sell RB. they have more units to go around. and more ad power. and honestly RB set the bar really really high for this genre. GH is done. and activision plans on squeezing every dime they can out of the title.

once the kinks and hardware problems get worked out and supply catches up to demand.. the best activision can do is COPY. and they will have atleast a years worth of making up to do on DLC. and would have to slash the prices drastically to get any one to switch over.
they could add random instruments.. like maybe a second guitar on op of drum vocals guitar and bass. or maybe accordions? (anyone remember the accordion hero ad? lol)
but HMX can patch a second one in (in theory) and compete.

they realize they are done for. the best they can hope for is a merger, or gain exclusive rights to (atleast) half the existing music catalog. which would be awful for us. a merger would be ideal.

i never side with monopolies as it results in poor quality. ::cougheasportscough:: but HMX has decent people who given the expenditure will give us quality stuff. the only thing that would prevent that is EA penny pinching. ::sigh::but if that happens.. i will buy out HMX and the series and deliver the true rock experience.. just need to win the lottery 5 times over or find a really really really rich guy to get a loan from.

and remember.. i am running for president in 20 20 something. ::highfive::
