Lyrics Without Pitch Bar...?

So I'm enjoying every aspect of the game so far except for two things: the ******ed strum bar on the Strat and the fact that I can't seem to get "Awesomes" on vocals when the pitch bar goes away. I sing the lyrics as close as possible to the actual track, but I can't seem to hit them consistently for some reason. The manual has been completely useless on this issue, but I'm sure someone here has to know the answer.

You just need to speak them don't worry about singing those. If its just words at the bottom and no pitch indicators then you just speak them and you want to be as clear as you possibly can otherwise it won't give you full credit.
