Newbie Confusion

I started playing Rock Band yesterday with my 2 sons.

If we want to switch around on the instruments, how do we do that.
For example, if I normally play guitar but want to do vocals on a song, I couldn't find a way to do this.

yeah, you have to set up a new profile or make a new band. They made it so you have to play the same instrument you originally chose when you made the band.

I believe this is actually a limitation of the XBox Live Profiles, you can only have one profile associated with one controller at a time and for you to switch to a different controller would require you to log out of your profile on the guitar and back in with that same profile with a mic (or drums or whatever). The first time I ran into this I had been using my guitar for GH3 and shut it down for the night, next day I was trying to play Halo 3 with my controller and couldn't get my Live profile to associate with that controller, didn't realize that it was still associated with my guitar. Anyways, I don't think this is a Rock Band fault but an Xbox Live Fault.

Wow, that sucks.

So if we want to do guitar, bass, and drums on some songs, and guitar vocals and drums on some songs, we have to set up 2 bands?

You are only limited to whatever was designated the "leader" for the band. So if you make the guitar the leader you can switch between the other spots fairly easily. You will still need to create a new character and sign profiles in and out though. At least you can keep the same band.

u dont necessarily need to make a new band, but you do need to make new characters for each of the instruments.. so your "drummer" character can't switch and play guitar later, you gotta make a new "guitar" character.. plus if you make a character on an xbox account, you have to sign in to that account on the instrument to access that character.. but if somebody is already signed into an xbox account on that instrument, they have to sign out first and then you have to sign in on it..

I've got one profile that has all the characters and instruments saved to it. Works ok. Not being able to change leaders and instruments was a design decision, I think. It needs to be changed.
