I get Aerosmith and Metallica, but do these guys really have enough good material to justify a whole game?

A full game seems like something reserved for only an elite top echelon of artists, and as good as they are I wouldn't put VH up there.

They're not seriously going to make a game called Band Hero. Please tell me they're not.

As for a GH: Van Halen, that's probably close to the least surprising game announcement ever.

Awesome! I'm in for GH:VH no problem.

I have no idea what Band Hero is. Is that their name for GH:WT2 ? Kinda lame.

And what is GH5 vs. Band Hero? Does that mean GH:WT was GH4? And while I can excuse the expansion packs for not being able to use the DLC tracks, Band Hero, or GH5 (whichever is the sequel to GH:WT) had better.

It's so confusing.

Toymachine, you pick fun at this, just by your original post I could tell. You listen in on what the people of the opposing "faction" say, and laugh basically.

But for gods sake, did you for one time think that Guitar Hero is pumping out useless game after useless game? Just send the songs out for DLC, it would make a lot of peoples' lives easier.

Band Hero, DJ Hero?? They are overusing the good name it used to be...

I'm not surprised. Activision has stated they want to release more Guitar Hero games. That's partly why they took away Tony Hawk from Neversoft - so Neversoft can spend all of their time putting out Guitar Hero games.

Aerosmith, fine. Metallica, fine. But I really don't see how Van Halen can make a good band game.

I'd put them on the same echelon as both of the bands you mentioned. Higher than Aerosmith, actually, since even the Van Hagar albums weren't nearly the decline in quality that the stuff Aerosmith put out after Done With Mirrors was. Not to mention that the band editions include a lot of songs by bands that inspired and were inspired by the band in the title.

But yeah, the GH exclusivity pains me every time I think about it. I want VH in RB, dammit! I blame Gary Cherone...

Microsoft Points are a rip off in Canada. I'd rather full games to be honest. I just like playing all these games- I don't feel an obligation to feel betrayed or offended by anything these companies do. It's all business.

For the record though I think GH: VH is a stupid idea- but the guitar solos will be fun :D

Yes, but I don't feel like Van Halen is as well known to the general public. I feel like Van Halen, in general, caters a bit more toward people who listen to just, well, rock. I mean, random Joe off the street can probably name you more Aerosmith or Metallica song titles than Van Halen song titles.

There you go. No, I didn't cheat. That was off the top of my head. I'm not a Metallica fan either. But then again a local radio station has their weekly Mandatory Metallica blocks. (98 Rock, anyone?) So, at least in my local area, even people who don't listen to rock really seem to know a whole bunch of Metallica songs. I feel like my area isn't exclusive in knowing at least the radio hits either.

I'm speaking on my own personal opinion since the previous person asked. I have a pretty wide taste in music and quite honestly there were a lot of songs in GHWT that appealed to my musical taste so I don't feel ripped off because there are a few foreign songs in the game I don't like- nor will I feel ripped off for GH:M. I'm interested to see who GH:VH will feature in the non-VH artists category.

Yeah, whereas PSN DLC is a bargain in Canada. Have come "this close" to setting up a Canadian PSN account for that reason.

And yeah, Van Halen is a band that, for all their influence and notoriety, is really alarmingly short on hits. Not sure why they're getting their own game, apart from them being exclusive to Activision.

It's already starting to happen. There seems to be a cloud of "that was a fad, only losers play it now" that is hanging over these games. I don't really care, if the kids are starting to think it's not cool then I'm not cool!

Seriously though a lot of people I know have been selling their stuff. It's annoying me, I'm having to look for strangers online to be my new rock band friends. Also seems like nobody on my friends list plays anymore.

I never really thought that playing fake plastic instruments was cool anyways.

My 12 yo cousin used to play a lot. Found out she sold her guitar, she said people at school make fun of people who play that now. Lame, whatever these are the same people that think highschool musical is cool.

Well, I'm thinking that it can't just be a duplicate of GH:WT, since there's gonna be a GH5 also...So Band Hero must be...a marching band game!

Think of it as a combination of DDR and GH. You have to both play your instrument and do field patterns on a floor mat at the same time!

Of course, it'll have to include some new instrument peripherals like trumpet, flute, tuba...

But yeah, the GH exclusivity pains me every time I think about it. I want VH in RB, dammit! I blame Gary Cherone...

Most of us just choose to ignore the fact that Cherone was ever a part of VH. He's great in Extreme, but just...no, Eddie. BAD decision! *whap*

Two notes.

1) "GH: Van Halen" once again proves Activision doesn't give a crap about supporting the WT platform, as they again pass up an opportunity to release some AMAZING DLC and instead shove it on a disc.

2) "Band Hero" would be the stupidest thing ever...since they've already got that in WT. But once again, this is likely a way for them to pre-load an excuse for why they won't allow WT to support BH content.

Band Hero?!?!?

I'm passing on GH:Metallica (not a huge fan) right away - I'll wait 'till I can grab it for 30 used somewhere. Van Halen is a favorite band - and with the whole 25 band songs 20 guests songs that GH seems to do, you could get a really solid tracklist of VH song.

GH 5 - however that turns out, might be a purchase. Depends on game and tracklist.

But that is what 4 or 6 SKUs for 1 year, and doesn't count the handhelds (GH:M, GH:GH, GH5, GH:VH DJ and Band). Sheesh.
