View Full Version : common sense....I know you guys don't want to hear this (DLC)

ok, i'm pretty sure that the hold-up releasing more DLC (or not having more ready to go when RB was released) is because:
a)they have to see how everything sells to gauge if it's profitable (member, still a business)

b)street date for PS2 version hasn't even hit yet, and w/o the opportunity of being able to patch, it has to be flawless at launch.

c)PS3 MAJOR probs is prob the wrench in the machine right now TBH.....the probs they been having is a disaster on just about every level (from PR to the future of the game itself, so it has to be top priority)

while we all KNOW that all the issues will be taken care of and DLC will eventually be plentiful......it's hard not to complain when you see the potential for this game.
i'm sure all companies involved will make everything right, i'm sure this will really kick in after the new year when all the peripherals are made available and all platforms are stable.
THEN they can really concentrate on banging out the DLC, which is just more fun for us, and more $$$ for them. so i'm sure they want to get to releasing more stuff as much as we want to play it.

member these are all my personal opinions, it'd just be great to see more productive threads that are positive, instead of all this negativity.
RB is the BEGINNING of a great and profitable franchise i'm sure.

I have a friend who works on the DLC as an audio engineer. Even though they haven't announced anything past xmas, it's still coming, trust me.. :)

The PS3 issues are entirely hardware and have to do with defects in the Rock Band peripherals (which also exist on the 360 side) and incompatibility with the Les Paul, nothing more.

PSN was ready with all the same DLC as the 360 on the 20th, and was also ready last Thursday (their normal update day) with the second release.

As for the future of the PS3 itself...you don't really want to turn this into a fanboy platform war, do you?

And regarding the PS2 version, that's not in Harmonix' hands--it was outsourced for development by another company using Harmonix' gameplay and designs. At this point, the PS2 version probably went gold two weeks ago, anyway.

They don't need to see if it's profitable. GH2 proved the model works.

I've bought between 1/3 and 1/4 of the available DLC and am on the fence about a few of the others but more excited about the next few week's releases so don't want to go out of control just yet. Are you seriously complaining that there isn't enough?

The OP is indeed way off. The reason they don't release buckets of DLC every week is simply that it's not a sustainable way of doing things. The fact is that DLC takes time to produce and properly test, and there's no way they could do 10+ songs a week every week. And if they did release that much DLC every week for a while, of course people would then start complaining when they inevitably started releasing less DLC every week, and concoct a million conspiracy theories about why it is happening.

Well, unfortunately he has no say in what songs are chosen, he just works on the songs he's given. And believe me, I've tried to get some scoops on what's coming up, but he won't budge on me haha..

I think the real point the OP was after was why the promised launch albums didn't materialize--depending where you read, either Who's Next or both Who's Next and Nevermind were expected to be available on Day 1.

I figure the delay on those is because Harmonix wants to get them completely right. Doing an album--which is generally going to have more diverse instrumentation than any given song--is a much more complex process. I know that when I get Who's Next, I'm going to want to play it from Baba O'Riley straight through to Won't Get Fooled Again and not only be incredibly stoked about the whole experience but be 100% ready to go back to Baba O'Riley and do it all over again.

If BWT is the main course of this game, full album downloads have to feel like sweet, sweet dessert.

Probably because he wants to keep his kick-ass job.

that's what I started with......got sidetracked from there....mainly the point was just that there's ALOT of things going on until the new year just to make the title solid and completely released (single peripherals and all) THEN you might see the influx of albums.

I really don't care when, as long as it's a yes for sure it's going to happen.

I just want to add one thing to your comment here:

Having played Baba O'Riley with a band I was in a few years ago, I seriously hope they don't try to transcode the intro keyboard line into the guitar charts :(

My hope is with DLC that for the Albums, they add in a setlist to BWT to the town that the band and their album is tied to. That would rock hardcore.

I don't want all the DLC integrated, neither of my bands can manage any of the metallica DLC stuff. Comes from not playing them often enough probably *sigh* It's hard to encourage people to try new songs.

Heh, yeah, as a drummer I can make it through Ride the Lightening and ...And Justice For All, but Blackened is still beyond me, even though I'm still on medium.

They've already said that they're not turning any keyboard or piano parts into playable guitar charts in this game. Don't worry about it.

I rather wait and get high quality DLC like the metallica pack than to get a ton of sloppy ones.

Well, if you've heard the way Won't Get Fooled Again is handled, I think you should be pretty confident that they won't mess with that.

Except when they're dealing with Freezepop songs.

They want to get everyone to buy what's up now. If they were to release everything at once people would just pick and choose what they want and not bother buying any of the rest. And if they make you wait a long time you'll most likely buy what's already up.

Heh, I'm doing that anyway. I don't like Bowie, the Polic, or Queens of the Stone Age that much. All I've bought is Metallica pack, Roxanne, My Sharona, and Fortunate Son. Though, next week they've got me, gotta have more Sabbath.

Funny...it seems like I bought pretty much exactly the opposite of what you bought:

Bowie Pack
Police Pack
QotSA Pack
Bang a Gong (Get It On)

And I'll be skipping Sabbath and the Punk week. The next stuff I'm interested in is on the 18th, when I'll be getting Radiohead, Weezer, and the Pretenders cover.

Life is weird like that. I'm a pretty diverse gamer. And a total Sony fanboy.

I'm pretty impressed with the DLC thus far.

I was worried it was going to be a bunch of no-name bands on the level with the Bonus Songs. If they keep up the quantity and quality for a few months at least, I'm happy.

The bonus songs for the Harmonix-developed GH games and now Rock Band tend to be from bands whose members include at least one Harmonix employee.

For example Kasson Crooker, the Harmonix Audio Director (last I heard), appeared under about five pseudonyms in the Harmonix game Amplitude (Symbion Project, Cosmonaut Zero, Komputer Kontroller, DJ HMX, etc.) and is also known as "The Duke of Pannekoeken," who plays and programs the Yamaha QY70 (among many, many other things) for Freezepop.

nice fact....I personally did not know that.
explains why freezepop comes out of nowhere with that totally different style/vibe.
