Why do people hate bands like Nickelback and Fallout Boy?

I might dislike them, but I'm not going to announce that they suck and ridicule whoever likes them.

Not just the forums.
I have only liked ONE nickelback song, and fallout boy makes my skin crawl.
They are just not that great. Good lyrics, ok individual musicians, but put them in bands together and it's just crappy.

because people feel the need to be hip/accepted, and the ultra-hipsters hate these bands, and that eventually trickles down into the depths of common society.

That, and 14 year olds have mommy and daddy complexes, and moms and dads love nickelback.

Didn't we just have a whole topic on why Nickelback sucks? Fall Out Boy isn't that good, but waaaaay more tolerable

i would guess it may have something to do with them not sounding good to their ears, but due to the bands' popularity they are regularly confronted with them in one way or another.

i personally think both bands are atrocious, but since i don't listen to the radio or watch television i have rarely encountered either band's music...
