View Full Version : GH:WT drums, worth it?

I have the ions at the moment, with three cymbals, which is AWESOME when playing RB, however, I do occasionally stray over to the dark side and play GH:WT for just some select songs (lostprophets, paramore, tool etc.), but i find it really annoying that i can't use the cymbals, and that the note chart is compressed back down to the standard four lanes...it is SO difficult to read!

So i was wondering, would it be worth me getting the GH:WT drums. How good are they? The idea of the cymbals being charted is awesome, but how is it in practice?

Thanks!

I wouldn't if I were you.
And in the (somewhat) words of JLC:
"Get the RB2 kit nubs."

The only reason to get the GHWT drums is to hook up your E-kit through the MIDI port. Unless you have a brain for your ION don't buy it.

If you do have a brain then you can make your drums wireless and get the full 5 note track.

i like the wt stock drum bass pedal better than the ion kit, the ion seem looser and makes my foot shake (like when your balancing and your feet shake) and i end up making a double hit, although the wt stock pedal is more stronger....yet for the whole kit, its OK, it feel better than drumming on a rb1 stock kit (i haven't tried a rb2 stock kit though) but the ion has the sound of drumming on fine leather, while the wt kit get more of a muffled sound...as for the cymbals i like the ion better, yet i have played a ion only 2 or 3 times...

But what about the cymbals? Does the charting work quite well? For me, the biggest advantage that GH has over RB is the fact that the cymbals are charted.

if you use the midi->USB cord you can fine tune the drums quite well =)

I enjoy the rebound and cymbals on the WT kit and playing with RB drums in World Tour is just not good in general imo.

However the stand-alone drums are way too expensive here (Canada) $109 :(

I actually have both kits and i would recommend the GH drums if you play gh wt alot and are looking to upgrade your experience.

My advice to a person just looking for a kit to work w/ both games, then RB2 kit is the way to go.

The rebound on the gh kit is good on both the pads and the cymbals. At first i had a little bit of a problem getting used to the cymbals but now im fine. I find it easier to play gh w/ dedicated cymbals inputs than trying to "determine" what pad or cymbal to play in rock band.

If i had to pick 1 kit over the other, i like the gh kit better. I like the layout, the rebound and the cymbals. Im also a huge Metallica fan so im really looking fwd to gh Metallica and double bass.

But again, if i had to pick a kit to use in both games, id got w/ the RB, its too weird trying to play rb w/ the gh drums.

if you have any other questions just let me know. I have a rb2 kit w/ silencers and 2 cymbals and the gh kit.

Amen to that. The problem is, it's probably the only thing it has over RB. No, I also like the countdown when unpausing.

My yellow cymbal for GH:WT quit working the day after I got the game. I wasn't even rough with it. I would say no.

What, so i wouldn't need to get a brain for my ions? But presumably I would still need the GH:WT kit.

The thing is, I think the having the GH:WT kit would mean i would play world tour a lot more than i do at the moment, i think it would add to the enjoyment.

The only problem is I have;
RB1 Drums
A (Slightly faulty) set of GoodWoods
The Ions
2 RB1 strats
1 GH:WT guitar
1 GH3 guitar
and pretty soon 1 RB2 guitar, all knocking around at home, I'm not sure how many more plastic instruments I can have in my house before women start avoiding me!

Your forgot the sustain notes on the drums, but other than that...

Except that the cymbals are notorious for failing and are in the wrong place. They are also like only an inch higher than the pads.

I thought they were adjustable?

Oh.. maybe they are. I just played on a friend's kit and didn't want to fool around with it. You might be able to move them up and down, but I'm pretty sure you can't move them left or right.
