Hi,
I live in the uk, and I'm travelling to Canada in Jan, we don't appear to be getting Rock band for a while yet, does anyone know if a canadian copy of rock band would have problems playing on a uk ps3? I know the games are region free but wasn't sure if the downloadable content would have problems in that case.
If anyone can provide me any help with this I'd really appreciate it, I have a feeling it would be ok, is just an expensive thing to buy if it doesn't work properly lol.

All games and all PS3 systems are region free. You can import any game from anywhere and play it on your system.
EDIT: Sorry, I only skimmed your post lol. DLC is restricted to regions unless you have an account under another country's PS Store.

Ahh I'll wait until it comes out in the uk then. Thanks a lot for your help :)

I'm pretty sure that even though they are region free, the fact that Canada uses NTSC and the UK uses PAL would be a bit of an issue. I'm pretty sure the ps3 doesn't have ntsc <-> pal circuitry.

Nope. PAL PS3's can play NTSC PS3 games. Not so much for NTSC PS1 and PS2 games though.
God, thats a lot of numbers and letters I just used.

it still works, just because DLC is region based, it wont work until its released in teh UK, if you buy ur game in canada, once the content is released in teh uk u can download it and it will work with the canadian version of the game. Its just a matter of when teh DLC will be released in teh uk

PS3 games ARE NOT region free. Most PS3 games are multi-region games, which is why the majority of games work on multiple PS3s. Publishers refused to allow Sony to make their games region-free due to fears of piracy. Multi-region games mean that Harmonix/EA can put the European, Japanese, and North American versions of the game all on the same disc, but they might not work in Hong Kong or South Africa unless the region codes on the console are the same.
PAL and NTSC standards are moot if you are playing through a digital connection (DVI or HDMI) to your monitor. That is an international standard that is separate of other video standards used by other countries.

Wrong...ALL PS3 games are on blue-ray dvd's which are region free. There is no region coding to any HD DVD's or blue-ray ones as of yet. So yes EVERY PS3 disc is region free and will work in ANY machine or ANY region.

Oh God, how wrong BOTH of you are (FYI, you're MORE wrong because you are trying to correct someone).
PS3 games are completely region free. The first guy was mistaken because he was confusing movie regions with games.
PS3 games are free. Blu-ray movies are REGION LOCKED. The regions have been redefined (America and Japan now share a region, which is great news for american gamers in Japan, like myself). I should add that movies can be region free if the studio chooses to do so (which they almost never will, except for something like Planet Earth), but games are and always have been region free.
A little education really goes a long way.

Yes Education goes a long way and you're a moron you got your information off wikipedia which any idiot in the world can edit. No HD or bluy ray game disc are region locked fool. I was unaware Rockband was a movie...after all the topic is about a video game dumba$$.

A) What a treat, I so rarely get involved in conversations with such *******s.
B) My wikipedia reference was a jumping point. Check out the references at the bottom of the page for the "non-editable" information.
C) I'm still right, and you're still wrong.
D) You said:

You go beyond the video game claim and say that there is no region coding on blue-rays [sic], and yet further HD-DVD's [sic] or blue-ray [sic]. There is. Oh, and there are no games that have been put on HD-DVDs yet, just movies.
