Trouble adding characters to band

I have absolutely no idea how to add new characters to my band...so far the closest thing I could do is put them as substitutes for certain instruments when I'm not actually playing as them. I know how to REMOVE characters, but how do you ADD them?

select the band you want, select the chtr you want... then go to band profile and select roster. you will have an option to change the chtrs status there which will add them as a permanent member
