There's already a most overrated band topic, so let's counter it!

Coheed and Cambria... simply because people listen to Welcome Home and Ten Speed (cover) and instantly think thats the best they have to offer.. when (in my opinion) isn't even in the top 10 best Coheed songs.

Sevendust is arguably the most underrated band music history. They have 7 albums that blow away the crap they play on the radio and nobody knows about them. Don't think of them as just another crappy Nu-Metal band. These guys are talented songwriters and every song has a memorable chorus that you will never forget. Sevendust in my mind, is the most underrated band ever.period.

I'm assuming that "Underrated" means band that everyone knows but doesn't get the credit they deserve from the rock community, and by that definition, it is definitely Creed. Listen to something other than Higher and Arms Wide Open and you'll see they're way better than everyone makes them out to be.

I've always thought that "underrated" was a generally well-known band that does not get nearly as much cred as it deserves; for example, great bands that are generally considered to be one-hit wonders by the general populace despite how those who actually go out to buy the album know quite well that it rocks.

Dude 10 speed is definately in my top 10 by them. But then again, Good Apollo I is my favorite album of theirs.
Anyway...MCR. Good talented band with great drums and fun guitar (GH2 had 3 off Black Parade) and excellent song writing that people avoid like the plague because they dress emo.
Nickelback is pretty underrated too. They don't set the world on fire or anything, but they have some genuinely good songs.

Dude the way you phrased that sentence....are you trying to say that you think no one has ever heard of them? or are you trying to say that you think that idea is preposterous? There's a double negative, that's why I'm asking. I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm genuinely wondering.

To be underrated is more about good music not getting it's due or "air time" if someone like Dream Theater had more air time it would probably be more popular. Underrated does not mean unknown. Awards does not mean it gets its due. Look at the Oscars. Have fun kiddies.....

Do you honestly care how he wrote that? >_> Too many people mention irrelevant things rather than discussing the topic of the thread, contribute something instead. There was no point of your post since you didn't even name a band. I know this has been said already, but one of the most underrated bands would be The Kinks. They are hardly discussed, were one of the first rock bands, and were an influence to many bands such as The Who, U2, The Smiths, and The Jam to name a few.
Phoenix7012
04-15-2009, 10:54 PM
I'm actually gonna say......... At the Drive in. Sure they had a short time as a more mainstream with the release of Relationship of Command, but when you look at some of the bands that list them as a major influence, some of them are more popular now then they ever where. Plus even the break up of the band led to the development of a band that is as or maybe even more popular then ATDI ever was. To me, a underrated band is a band that has influenced other bands, but really never got the kind of recognition they deserve and I think that ATDI falls into that category for sure.

To be underrated is more about good music not getting it's due or "air time" if someone like Dream Theater had more air time it would probably be more popular. Underrated does not mean unknown. Awards does not mean it gets its due. Look at the Oscars. Have fun kiddies.....

Critically: Oingo Boingo, The Jam, Depeche Mode, T. Rex, Donovan, Sweet, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Daft Punk, and Devo.
I bolded The Jam for extra emphasis. If I had my druthers, The Jam would hold the official title for Most Underrated Band Ever.

It's the Pixies, and I'll tell you why.
the Pixies absolutely were the best band of their era, and nothing in the late 80s sounded anything like them. The real genius of the Pixies lies in their dynamics, Verse, Chorus, Verse, Loud, Quiet, Loud. Charles Thompson is among the greatest pop songwriters ever and NOBODY gives him credit for it because all the songs are about weird **** like incest and outer space.
sure, they're a huge influence on everybody... but if Charles Thompson sings about teen angst instead of surrealist topics that only he truly understands... that band is Nirvana.
and as far as I'm concerned, they should have reached that level of popularity...
I understand that it's difficult to comprehend a band that that headlines festivals as underrated, but the fact is that the Pixies didn't get their recognition until YEARS after they broke up... and I still don't feel they get enough credit for being so crucial to alternative/indie music in the 20 years following.
