hey guys. i didnt post this to start a war about wheather rb or gh is better. i have both rb and 2 and am planning to buy gh metallica. my question is whether any1 knows if the ion can be used for guitar hero and how, since theres 5 notes for gh and 4 for rb. i love rock band but metallica happens to be my favorite band which unfortunatly, rock band lacks. please no flames .thank you.

It will shrink down the track to 4 like in GHWT. Expert+ would require you to get the HMX version (http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126439) of the double pedal and another non-ION pedal because those don't work with the splitter.
Other methods of getting DB would be KD-8 + Kickbox + real DB pedals or the twin rocker (also cannot be used with ION pedal).

Actually, ToymachineSH posted over in General that the Ion controller will not work with GH:Metallica. Not sure where he read that, but he usually knows what he's talking about when it comes to GH stuff.
And he also said that GH:M's Expert+ mode will ONLY be available with a GH drum set, not RB.

You are correct, GH:M is not designed to use ION and they aren't supported.
Expert+ requires the use of the GHWT(drum)controller to be connected to the console. Those who used the MIDI option will have no issue.
Rockband(1 and 2)drums will work the same as they do in GHWT, except for wii, confirmation on using Expert+ on a Rockband kit isn't around yet but it clearly doesn't support enough paths, so I doubt Expert+ would be available with those kits since you'd be missing a entire lane of notes.
GH has posted a compatibility chart, even though it's not 100% correct.

What? Well no sale from me. Damn communists infecting society with their non-universal controllers <grumble><grumble><grumble>
With this error I hearby retire from drum advice forever.

You can argue either way. Capitalists want a freer market but also want your moneys. Communists can be blamed for anything. (not a poli thread)

Damn Reds!
Disappointing that IONs won't work with GHM, but I don't own one, so I'm literally unaffected.
nah, this is eco.

I don't know why they don't like us playing their game. More sales = more money. People don't like paying for multiple kits just to play two nearly related games. poli and eco are strongly related though.

I thought the IONs work for GHWT on the 360. So if GH:M is using the WT engine, it should work.... The compatibility chart on the website would be wrong if this is the case.

It is an odd business choice to oust the... what, single best third party drum set? But I suppose they're cashing in on Band Kits. I know I'm getting one. My PS2 drums... lol. And my WT drums are busted, as is my GH3 guitar. So, Band Kit pl0x.

If I cannot resist playing GH:M I'm going to drum brain + GH kit. That would allow a KD8 without a kickbox and allow hi hat in RB. Ironic that the best way to play would be to combine so much third party stuff together.

ION > GH:M but also don't trust that compatibility chart.

Oh man, if the Ion's don't work with GH:M that really really really sucks. I would just have to play guitar :( I could bust out my RB1 drums that are all busted up and give that a go. But the last time I played it I five starred Enter Sandman then plugged my Ions in and then gold starred it for the first time. Damn this is bad news for me.
