Hey guys,
I was lookin to buy a new game, i play rock band on the majority of my time, but sometimes i just dont feel like hitting colors.

I have the halos, CoD's, bioshock, merc 2 and assassin creed.

Any of you have any suggestions for a game that isnt rhythm based or 1st person shooter?

I like MMORPG's and games that are more strategic then hack and slash.

Anyone have a suggestion for a game that is pretty sweet, any genre will work, just dont know what i should get?

Resident Evil 5 or Starfox 64...but that doesn't work with the 360...so nvm.

Actually, buy Starfox 64 regardless if you own a N64 or not.

Far Cry 2 was very Meh. I loved the Far Cry series when i heard of it on the Original XBOX (Far Cry Instincts)

But i do agree on the others.

And if you are into shooters, Try the GRAW series or the Rainbow Six series.

for stealthy games, Splinter Cell series is also great. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is on the XBOX Originals.

i'm still waiting on crap about Splinter Cell Conviction... The game that was supposed to be release like 2 years ago and never was. Well it was supposed to be release on November 17th, 2007.

It's March 2009 and nothing yet. grr!

*edit* Found out that the game could come out anywhere between April 1, 2009 - March 30, 2010.

Also that game was delayed 3 times.

I'd have to concur with Cake, but with the broader recommendation of any of the Tom Clancy games that came out recently. Rainbow Six Vegas, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory & Double Agent, HAWX, and EndWar are all excellent games spanning several genres. I'm sure you can find something you like.

All the games occur in the same Universe (affectionately called the Clancyverse), so crossovers abound in later titles, especially HAWX and EndWar.

Games where the timeline matters: HAWX begins at the end of GRAW2, then covers a bunch of the time between GRAW2 and EndWar. Everything else happens in a vague space of time in the decade before GRAW2.

Rainbow Six: 1st Person Shooter
Ghost Recon: 3rd Person Squad Based Shooter
Splinter Cell: 3rd Person Stealth Action
HAWX: Air Combat Maneuvers
EndWar: Real Time Strategy

The Clancy series is also pioneering groundbreaking voice-command systems. You can play HAWX and EndWar essentially with nothing but your joysticks and your voice, if you so choose.

I think you'd like Hitman: Bloodmoney. It's not a FPS (you can enter FP and shoot if you want but you can aslo go through the whole game and not shoot anyone at all) and it's strategic. You also have the freedom to get creative, poison cake, exploding hambugers, dressing up as santa to infiltrate a modeling shoot etc.

i love it how it is possible to use voice commands in Vegas 2 also. the first time i encountered it was when i was talking to myself and said "Move" the next thing i knew the little thing on the ground moved to where i was looking, i didn't press any buttons.

I'm curious as to which version of Double Agent it follows though: the Xbox/PS2/Wii/GCN version had a different ending from the 360/PS3 version.

If you haven't played the Xbox version yet, it's much better than the 360 version. In fact, all those good cutscenes in the 360 version were taken from the Xbox version and repurposed. That's what resulted in some inconsistencies, such as Sam going from climbing a cable to his evac Osprey in the level to seeing him running across the roof and jumping in the side in the cutscene. Ubi Montreal (Who made the original, Chaos Theory, and are working on ConViction) made the Xbox version, Shanghai (Pandora Tomorrow) made the 360 version.

But yes, it does look flippin' awesome.

Actually it really depends on what you were expecting. If you were expecting the next Gears of War, you were going to be disappointed. Likewise, if you were expecting it to be similar to KOTOR, you were also just setting yourself up for unhappiness.

If you were expecting the greatest blend of 3rd Person action with RPG storytelling elements and the greatest character interaction system ever created, then you got what you wanted. :D

Oh, forgot to mention the incredibly detailed Universe it takes place in and the novel/blockbuster-like story that you play through.

But wasn't there different endings to the game anyways? Cause i remember 3 achievements reading "Complete the Game with _______ ending" like the good, bad, whatever.

The SP:Conviction looks great, i wonder if Ubisoft is working on a new Rainbow Six?

I could've gotten all 1000 Gamerscore on Rainbow Six Vegas, but the hosting a 16-player matched seemed to be impossible with me, beating the game on Realistic also seemed to be impossible for me. Other than those 2 i could've gotten all 1000 for it. There's another achievement, but i gave up on it cause it's just time consuming. i got all 1000 gamerscore in Vegas 2.

I Wonder what the next Ghost Recon game is going to be like.

E3 2009 should help us.

You should just get Marble Blat Ultra, Braid, and Portal on the XBL Arcade. In Marble Blast you are a marble that has to finish courses or play online collecting gems. It's crazy fun and addicting. Braid is a straight puzzle game that will challenge your intellect more than almost all others and is extremely rewarding when you finish it without cheating. I haven't bought Portal but played some of it on Orange Box. It's pretty cool and I've heard all good things about it. It'll be cheaper than a disk game and probably much more fun.

Mass Effect will push RPGs into a new and better direction.

Not with the shoddy repetitive combat, or poor menu system, or the hokey cliche writing, but with the innovative and endlessly entertaining conversation system. I can't wait until an excellent RPG developer rips off this dynamic system, and we get the next evolution in RPGs.

I disagree. Of all the Bioware RPGs I've played (KOTOR I & II, Jade Empire, Mass Effect) I've found them to be all pretty derivitive of the typical western RPG. Choice over plot, half-baked battle systems (tho, IMO Jade Empire was decent when it came to fighting), and cliched writing/dialog. I'm not saying that JRPGs aren't getting stale, they are, but at least the characters are well written. That's something most Bioware RPGs are lacking, but ME made excellent strides in that dept. It's just too bad the dialogue was corny.

I just think the western RPG has a long way to go before it comes to the same pinnacle that JRPGs used to hold.

If Bethesda could write a compelling narrative, I think they would be the ones to do it right.

I think the western audience doent exactly snap up rpgs, so they to be Action Rpgs(fable),Shooter RPGS(Mass Effect,Fallout 3), or Massively Multiplayer(WoW), to actually sell well. it may even be that the pure rpg is an outdated genre.
on that note, oblivion is the best rpg ive played recently.

FloodOne

The western audience doesn't snap them up anymore. FFXII sold a tremendous amount of copies, but its been 3 1/2 years since it released. We haven't seen a AAA JRPG in a long time.

But, IMO the ____/RPG is becoming quite stale, with the exception of what Bethesda is doing.

I will reserve my final judgment on Bioware for Dragon Age: Origins tho.. that game looks like it will be stellar

I cried when I found out Bioware delayed the game's release date to November. They probably already finished the console version already...they just wanted the PC and console versions to have a simultaneous release.

I was going to suggest Blood Money too. It's a few years old now, but it's aging gracefully...I first played it on the original Xbox, played it again in the box set for the PS2, and I'm playing it again now on the 360.

It's the open-ended gameplay that's making it stand up so well...there are so many ways to complete the levels. It definitely shouldn't be played through just once.

I'm really hoping to see something from the Hitman people at E3 this year. Seeing Hitman fully grasp next-gen's capabilities would create insane amounts of entertainment.

Some other games I've enjoyed recently: Fable 2, Tomb Raider Underworld (although it will be confusing if you haven't played Legend), and Prince of Persia.

I never actually played the first one. This one is more like The Club with a slightly more ridiculous plot. Gameplay is all about the combos.

If you have a Wii, and are old enough to buy M-rated games - Madworld is pretty rad too. Greg Proops and John DiMaggio (Bender from Futurama) as the announcers = full-on entertainment.

Both games might be rentals (they don't appear to be too long) but I have enjoyed both recently.
