View Full Version : HOORAY for solo buttons!

I just finished the solo guitar tour on hard level. Using the solo fret buttons REALLY helped me out with the last tier!
If anyone else out there is struggling with some long, strewn-out solos, try using the solo buttons! They really make it, like, 5 times easier. I don't know how anyone would play this with the Les Paul or Xplorer!
Just to let you know, I used my right hand on the solo buttons while keeping my left hand on the higher fret buttons. That way, when the solo ends, you don't have to fumble around to get your left hand back into place. It took a little bit of practice, but after about 5 minutes I could nail the solos every time!

I haven't been able to get myself to try it. Maybe I will, now that you've mentioned it.

Highway Star was my last expert song in solo tour. Couldn't have beaten it without the solo buttons.

I used my fret hand for the solos. I actually had to keep my strumming hand on the strum since there are a few parts in the solo that require strumming (long strings of the same note)

I'm really looking forward to practising switching between the main and solo frets for the guitar parts. There are several solos that are just made for these frets, like the end of the guitar solo in Blackened. It's hilariously easy tapping using the solo buttons.

finished hard and halfway into expert using the Les Paul. even when i could use the Fender i only tried the solo frets for two songs. I didn't like them.

I've only tried them a few times but really loved the solo buttons. Plus it was great the very first night we played it, I was playing through a solo on those buttons, and the guy playing bass was just staring at me like 'wtf, how are you doing that without strumming???'
I just tossed some devil horns up with my right hand and kept on soloing :)

just lift up ad tap again. You literally do not have to strum anywhere in a solo section with the solo buttons.

Ran through Expert, beat every song first try with the Les Paul. The solo buttons are ok, but not that great.
To the person who said they couldn't do Highway Star: I actually found it really easy to do, the only part that tripped me up a little with the GYB bit.
Edit: Oh, and try doing the fast part in GGaHT by tapping the button. :P

I drop notes on that part strumming. You'd need robot fingers to tap that.

I know but a string of 32nd notes at 100 bpm is not something my fret fingers can tap out. Hence why I used the strum.

Imagine playing Misirlou from GH2 with the solo buttons. Now, that would be a (rather funny to watch) challenge...
