View Full Version : Any way to tell which type of guitar you have WITHOUT voiding the warranty?

I'm wondering if you can tell whether you have the microswitch model or the newest magnet model of strum bar without opening the guitar or otherwise voiding your warranty. I want to paint the guitar a different color as my winter break project, but seeing as I'm somewhat of a perfectionist, I'd like to make sure I have the best possible hardware inside (the one that will last me the longest and is the most reliable) before spending all that time and money painting it. Can anyone help?

I don't think its been confirmed that they can tell if you've opened it.

I'm willing to bet that they only check that you sent a guitar back to them and that it looks unopened.

Depending how anal they are with checking them, posting that you opened the guitar probably falls under the 'bad idea' category.
seems to me that the best way to know is to see if the model numbers match/differ from the current one you have.

They are using the same model number. Even though the design is changing on the inside, they still consider it the same model. Same goes for the drums. I've had two different sets. Completely different design. Same exact model number.

On the microswitch design you can see the switches through the top and bottom slats in the strum bar. Harder to designate the other types in this method tho.

So do I! Like I said...reading the label is pointless. They don't change the model number each time they make a change to the design of the strumbar. Before you post something like that, how about knowing what you are talking about. His question is a valid one. The answer is you really have to just open it up to see.
