While I anxiously await Dec 25th so that I can open up my Rockband bundle which is sitting there mocking me, I began to wonder how offline and online play mixes, and was hoping someone might be able to answer my question.
I plan on playing Rockband with my wife. She has a silver account that she uses. When we play local multiplayer, will she need to use her silver account? or is there a guest account that she can use (similar to Halo3).
Now, when I get online to play with some of my friends, will she be able to play with us as well, locally? Im pretty sure XBL wont allow her to play online with just a silver account. So is there a guest account she can use, or someway to piggy back on my gold account?
Thanks for the help!

From what I've heard, she cannot play online with you. On the PS3 she could, but I've heard that 360 requires a gold account for each band member.

If she uses your account and you have a gold account she can play with you. If you want to use both accounts signed in online she will most likely need a gold account. I would just play on one account to play online.

Thanks. So if I understand you correctly, 2 people can play two seperate instruments online, on one gold account?

Keep in mind that "a guest" means "not signed in to any profiles". IE, a guest player. You can't sign a silver profile in and use its characters and go online with it even alongside a gold profile.
So, you get to use your characters... everybody else has to use generics.

Guest accounts work
Silver/Offline accounts do not
as with other xbox live games

Most games, Call of Duty 4 unfortunately does not support guest accounts. THANKS ACTIVISION! Keep the great PR coming.

So what avatar would a guest account use? Can it access the Gold member's avatars?

I've had more than one instrument logged in with my gold account before, but I wasn't trying to do anything online.
I'm pretty sure you can create a character on the gold account for each instrument and have each of those members all playing online at the same time, without using the generic ones.

This is interesting. Last week, my wife was logging into her silver account (so it would load her information) then when we selected to move forward into band quickly - it would say she would need to sign in to a gold account. She would then select Guest, but when we went back to character selection - she could select her offline character that was under the silver account.
Now, yesterday we tried doing this and it was not working. So I'm not sure what happened, because I don't remember downloading any updates, but it didn't work anymore. The only change to the system had been 3 songs I d/l from the marketplace.
So maybe it will work for other people, maybe it won't. The steps we were using are as follows:
1) Log into Silver Account
2) Select to go online in Quickplay
2) Log into Gold Account as a Guest
3) Silver Account characters should still be available.

Is it possible to play online with 2 people playing different instruments on one Xbox and 2 other people on another Xbox via Xbox Live? i.e. Drums and Vocals signed in as Gold member and Guest on one Xbox and Guitar and Bass on another Xbox as Gold Meember and Guest...all playing together in the same band?

Can't the guests use any spare characters on the Gold XBL! profile?

bump...I'm interested in understanding this too. I'm at a cross-roads as to whether to get the PS3 version or 360 version of Rock Band but I only have one Live account and wasn't planning on purchasing more for other members of my family to go online with Rock Band. If I'm forced to buy more Live accounts, I'll be buying the PS3 version.

On XBLive, you can do a quickplay game with guests, and other gamertags.
For Example, I played an online set with myself on Guitar, my neighbor on drums, his son on the same xbox, logged in as a guest, on bass, and another friend across town singing.
When your setting up a quick band play session, it allows you to set up your side of things before joining. If you host, you can get your guest set up first. If you get an invite, you get a chance to drag in some guests or other gamertags on your xbox before you join the quickplay session.
Make sense? I think thats all right. Correct me if Im wrong.

The cool thing is using Gold+Guests totally breaks that system's ability to do voice chat for the duration of that condition during online play.

Im glad you said that. We were having all sorts of wierd Voice chat issues when we were in that match. Couldnt figure out what was wrong. I could hear the lone Gold member on their xbox, but not the gold member or guest on the other box. Even then, Normal private voice chat worked though, with the other player :)
Can you not normal chat with a gold member + guest?

Yeah,
I played with my brother and his kids the other day and we went into chat before we hooked up the online. The chat with my brother worked great the whole time. Maybe the chat with other random people who join during on online session will be broken, but if you just want to hook up with another Xbox, just do private chat and it will work with guests playing. I have yet to see if we can setup 2 on one box and invite 2 on another.

Yep I have 1 gold account ..My wife plays as guest...I then play with 2 other people online and no chat..We have to do a private chat. But it was still way cool....
So no fear for xbox360 versions..you can play multiple people on one box...just going to have some minor chat issues with the other people. Hopefully they will have a patch to fix this at somepoint.
