So it's pointless to keep saying to have people search. People are going to want to post thier thoughts and have them up in front of everyone it's the point of a discussion forum. not buried all the way down in stuff. So to say use the search function is really counter intuitive to a forum
Just some food for thought.

I agree.... I now propose a three strike rule. Don't use a search and are reminded twice, fine. Third time, ban hammer...
Or we could just keep politely reminding them. You pick. :D

Just FYI, nobody really thinks you're influential with your almost Senior Member status. Joining in November and posting on garbage threads to increase your post count does not give you any power over those here that are Senior Members with September and before join-dates.
Use the search function and don't try and be all high-and-mighty.

I have found it useful a few times for digging up very old posts. :(

I usually use the search function to search for my username. Then I read all the posts that people have replied to.
The worst section by far is Ultimate Setlist. You see different posts about the same band on the 1st page.

I used it before I made my first post in July because this was my first forum I joined and I didn't want to come off like an idiot.
But I'm sure I've made myself look like an idiot since lol.

I dislike the search feature, wont let you do 3 character searches, and that's lame.

Most forums seach functions are absolutly terrible and can't find what you're looking for anyway so it's easier to just make a new topic.

Considering how bad a lot of people are at coming up with decent search strings on full blown search engines, I wouldn't be surprised if they suck at searching within forums as well...

I looked and looked for the search button but couldn't find it. Now that I registered to post I see the search button. I guess you have to be registered and logged in just to search.

I'm a member of a few other forums and I use the search button all the time when looking for answers. I only reply if I didn't find an answer.

Should this really be a community that supports such elitist views? As far as I see it a junior member deserves just as much respect as a senior member, post counts are irrelevant.

If searching were counterintuitive to a forum, then why would it have a search function at all?
I think it is good to tell people that post repeated topics that they should search for threads similar to theirs. Not only is this helpful for future posts but they could possibly check out other peoples threads to see more on the topic that might not have been discussed in their own.
As long as people inform others of searching in a some what nice day I don't think that it should be frowned upon.

To solve the problem of people not searching for simple questiosn, I'd like to see something set up like this:
For all new members (let's say under 15 posts), everytime they try to make a new thread, a big message shows up in bright yellow or something that says "Wait! Your question may already be answered! Use the seach button" and there's an arrow pointing to it.
I remember going to a different forum to ask a question, and I instinctively clicked the 'create new post' button. As soon as I did it, I said "wait, I should use the search thing first" but only because I remembered all the times we tell people to do that.
I think adding that warning thing would be sweet, and would save us a lot of spam/repeat threads if we could implement it.
