Requirements for gold stars?

My band has gotten a few gold star scores but I haven't been able to figure out how.
Is it based on score? In Guitar Hero, you could only get gold stars if you got 100%. I know my band has gotten gold stars with less than 100% so it is obviously not that.

It's based on score, somewhere in the range of actually 7.5-8 stars (so almost 2x the score you'd need to just get 5 stars).

No. The score required for 5 stars increases with the number of members in the band.

I'd actually say it was harder to get gold stars with more people. By myself on Guitar, well over half my scores are gold stars. But as a band, we've yet to get one.

Anyhoo, definitely score based, nothing to do with percentage. My lowest percentage for a gold star so far was 97%

One more question, are gold stars only acheivable in expert level? That's the only time I've seen them.
