I'm trying to figure out why people play on Xbox live in difficulty levels they can 100% every time? its really pointless. I don't play online to see if i can out 100% the other person or whatever, i go on there to have fun.. why does everyone on there 100% songs on the difficulty level they're playing on.. why not up the difficulty level?

Can you guys (harmonix) please try and work on it so that people who are really rocking in easy and medium have a penalty if they play in those difficulty levels or something, its really sucky to lose every time because people 100% every single game.

Dunno.
Usually beat 'em on expert anyway, so no problem for me. :]

I don't know why other people do, but I can try to explain why I do...well, in GH anyway, I haven't played RB online yet.

Usually when I go online, I'll play on Hard even though I can 100% most songs (at least in the first 5 tiers). The reason is because if I pick Expert, I'll get my ass thoroughly kicked if the other person chooses anything in the last 2 or 3 tiers. Or if it's some douschenozzle who picks TTFaF, I might as well quit before the song even starts.

So I do it, but at least I pick songs from the tiers that I know I can't 100% the songs :) It's not my fault if the other guy picks I Love Rock and Roll ;)

There are achievements for winning ranked matches, so I guess it isn't so POINTless after all. (pun intended) :D

i go on there to have fun

maybe they do as well - why should we penalize them if their idea of fun differs from yours?

EDIT: didn't realize you were talking about competitve play - maybe they have a small comfort zone and don't like to venture outside of it

Yeah, I guess I'd have to say that's all the more incentive to play Expert. :)

Though ultimately I appreciate the annoyance, but what else do you expect from this generation where real achievement has no place because no one has to work for anything anymore. The values we're teaching them by not beating them when they're *******s, by shooting each other instead of punching them, by letting them get away with stealing music and movies.. and games. So why not just go online and find some way to cheat their way to the #1 spot by dropping out of loosing battles, avoiding the agony of defeat by stealing success from someone else.

How else do you explain the guys in their mid-twenties driving Audi R8's? W-T-F?

I'd get into a political debate about the war and how it doesn't really effect the overwhelming majority of your day to day lives. The point is 'blood, sweat and tears' are reserved for the few, the enlightened (or the grossly ignorant). The masses are instant-gratification drones.

I dunno maybe I'm part of the problem playing Rock Band because it gives a sensation I wouldn't otherwise experience unless I started a band. But that's like saying masturbation is wrong. I think we all know it's not the real thing but it's still a blast either way and yet not without it's little annoyances.

For some, the competative side of face off isn't percentage of notes hit, but how well you use your star power. For them, it's more fun to play someone when both sides can 100%

Of course, there are probably also plenty of people who are trying to farm for stats, and hope they play someone who isn't quite as good as them.

Either way, there's no real way to stop it. Just don't play ranked matches if it bugs you, or get better and destroy them.

Because people would rather win than play the game correctly. It's the same reason your Battlefield 2 medic teammate would rather try to shock paddle an enemy than capture a point, because there's some achievement or something for doing so and capturing the point simply helps your team win.

Also the scoring system really rewards players for being in their comfort zone and streaking the heck out of a song instead of challenging themselves.

Yah most of the people you speak of frequent easy/medium, they are achievement hounds, play on hard or expert and you will find a lot less people like those you speak of.

Yeah, I'd never resort to playing easy or medium on Live, ever. But while I am capable of playing Expert I still play Hard over Live, because for one..you were talking about it being fun...well with GH3 in particular, Expert is not fun for me. I'd much rather play more realistic note-for-note charts, like on Hard...then all the random jibberish as seen on a lot of Expert songs. Plus, what fun is it going on live knowing for certain you're not going to win. It's happened to me a few times now where I could 97-98% a song on Hard, but the guy I play can 99% it...so you're never the best...but it doesn't mean it still can't be fun.
