OK, so I've been playing guitar for a little bit (a few months, actually), and I've been teaching myself via tabs. The only problem is, I'm having plenty of trouble finding good absolute beginner songs for me to learn so I can improve my not-so-mad skillz. A few general guidelines for suggestions:

-Obviously, it's gotta be easy-peasy.
-Preferrably no solos or a REALLY SUPER EASY solo. When learning Smoke on the Water, even though I can currently play the rest of the song backwards it frustrates me as to how I can't actually play the song in its entirety because of the solo.
-I'd like to be given a tab and a 'Tube link to the song.

So... help a poor, crappy guitarist out?

List of songs already mastered/practicing:
Breakin the Law (Judas Priest)

Depends what kind of guitarist you are, really.

A entry level noise guitarist would have ease with Big Black while a traditional/classic rock guitarist would have trouble with a Big Black song due to so many factors.

Smoke On The Water...no guitarist can go on without playing that song :D

Edit : Sorry didn't read that well :p

You Should try to learn song you like...when I was learning to play...the 1st song I learned to play completely was Karma Police

I'm assuming he's going for the trad. metal/rock approach since he's learnt Breakin' the Law and Smoke on the Water. Which doesn't really excuse my suggestions.

look up some simon & garfunkel tabs.

They should be fun. I don't have a working electric right now, so I've been exclusively playing an acoustic for a few months.

The Cult's Electric album may as well be packaged as a beginner guitar song book. It does have solos but they certainly aren't Ritchie Blackmore. It is the epitome of three chord hard rock.

Check This Out.

www.songsterr.com

It's a tab website with a crazy amount of tracks and they play out for you. You can start and stop the song, learn lead and rhythm parts(or bass), they have songs categorized by difficulty and are all very accurately tabbed.

Good Rocking to you.

Edit: Sorry, list of beginner songs kind of sucks BUT! The site takes song requests.

iron man, Smoke on the water

"Iron Man" really isn't that easy, actually. It's easy when you've reached the intermediate level of guitar, but near the end of the riff, there's a power chord that alternates fairly quickly and can be difficult to do.

"Time" by Pink Floyd is a pretty good one. So is "Brain Damage". "Echoes", as well. I also recommend "Helter Skelter" by The Beatles.

When I first started playing guitar, I went through and learned the entirety of Creed's "Human Clay" album. That's a pretty good starting point for beginners.

It's important, though, to try to always learn songs that are a bit too hard for you to play, because that's really the only way to get better.

I've got Human Clay. I could probably do those songs with practice. The second paragraph is pretty good advice, too; I'll keep it in mind.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

Remember one thing, any good tab will have the rythm/background tabbed in a solo. It's best to just play backgound parts. And as for solos, you don't have to play what's on the song. I learned how to play from improving some solos in that scale. You can find the scale by just playing with what notes are played in the general area.

In Sunshine of your Love, Clapton does a scale with the fret range from 7 to 15. You can cut it down to what you like, and I think a good improv range would be 7-10. Some people could call it a blues scale.

This is a good practice scale of a 7-10 range.

E--------------------------7-10-----------------
B--------------------7-10-----------------------
G---------------7-9------------------------------
D-----------7-9----------------------------------
A-------7-9--------------------------------------
E-7-10------------------------------------------

Once you play it descending, play it in reverse order from your high E string to your low E string. You'll want to play it and speed up at your OWN pace. You can play it as slow or as fast as you want, but try to keep within tempo of the song.

Keep that as your "Solo range" for Sunshine of your Love and just solo with the frets available on that string, so on the A string, the frets 7, 8 and 9 would be available to you. For starters, just experiment with the scale and you'll eventually get a feel for it, and eventually learn the actual solo or even add onto it.. If you are feeling adventerous, go ahead and combine two scales or just use a solo lick you made in a different scale, I do it all the time. One neat sounding lick is this...
E---------------------------------------------------------------
B---------------------------------------------------------------
G--------7-9--7--7----------7-9--7-7-9(Bend up)---------
D----7-9----------------7-9-----------------------------------
A---------------------------------------------------------------
E---------------------------------------------------------------

This is my first time ever writing tab. It may seem a bit confusing, if so, apoligies.
