The new strummer is very tight feeling and not wobbly like my last one it registers notes perfectly alt strumming is smooth as butter the whole guitar feels more solid and not all bendy and cheap like the first gen of guitars. I'm pretty sure its the new magnet type strum because I don't hear it touching anything n such.. Everything works absolutely great with it, even the buttons are more solid feeling and don't make a ton of clicky noise like my other one. THIS is the guitar I've been wanting since GH1, it is amazing.

Same here. I couldn't resist so I opened mine up and saw that the strum bar mechanism is the new one....the one with magnets. So, I'm a happy camper.

Did you happen to see the model number? Is there a new model number for the guitars with the redesigned strum mechanisms?

I'd like to know this too. Because I *THINK* I'm having trouble with my guitar...but I'm not sure if the guitar is crap, or if it's just supposed to be this way? My strum bar is loose...but doesnt' seem broken. Buttons are loud, and the date on the bottom of my box is Oct. 17th...If that means anything.
Or maybe I just suck?

Sorry, dudes, the model numbers are the same on my broken guitar and on the good replacement one I just got. It looks like you have to open yours up to see if you got a bad one.

Yeah my new one just has a greater overall feel to it, absolutely love it. Neck doesn't feel all bendy and crappy anymore, buttons are firm, strum bar isn't loose actually a nice tight feel to it. I'm happy, now to get my drums replaced cuz they wont do rolls.

My old drum set had an unresponsive blue pad (it would miss like a solid 75% of blue notes unless i used more force than should be required to hit a pad), so I was thrilled when I opened my drum set and proceeded to unlock my 100% expert song achievement.
As I found out, though, my red pad now doesn't allow drum rolls. I've tried them in the song, during fills, and during the solo at the end, and I watch as hits just aren't registering.
Anyone have any ideas for a fix? It's 100% responsive otherwise, just doesn't rebound quickly enough for a drum roll I think. I'd rather not fill out for another replacement :(

take a couple pieces of duct tape, squeeze your pads together a bit and tape them like that. supposedly makes the pad respond better to hits

I have the exact same problem. First set, all pads were unresponsive. New set, my red pad doesn't register fast, normal force hits. You are going to have to tape it down with some tape. I used Scotch Strapping tape. Works good for now. Hopefully they will get this problem fixed in the next few weeks so I can get a third set that works...without tape.

Got my replacement just a few days ago, opened it up yesterday to find out that mine uses the new magnet design.
The strumbar was really stiff at first but after a while it has loosened and feels very comfortable but not nearly as loose as the first model. I've played it about 12 hours thus far and haven't had any doublestrumming/note-registering problems, but I can't help but feel worried because my old guitar died around this time. So let's keep our fingers crossed that the magnets prove to be stable :D

The fact that this needs to even be said in regards to a supposedly final product is out of control.
On another note, I get my replacement guitar soon so it's nice to see that some people are actually happy with theirs. I pray to god that I get the new strum bar system. If they ever make an improved drum set I might replace the one I have now as well. Mine does the double hit thing on the red pad but only occasionally and it sounds like if I replace the drums I'm just as likely to have another problem.

Also, for you guys worried about voiding the warranty by taking your guitar apart, here is my opinion on that. I believe we were meant to be able to open it up. Here is my proof. For left handed players, there is a place for the strap to be attached on the other side. You have to open the guitar to switch the piece to the other side. Therefore, I believe it's ok to open the guitar just to take a peek and see how it is made. If you start playing with the insides and screw something up, you're on your own lol. If they really didn't want us to open it, there would be a warning label telling us that doing so voided the warranty. Just my two cents...
EDIT: So yeah....apparently I didn't think about the fact you can just unscrew that piece. I have never tried tried to unscrew it. I just know when I took my guitar apart I saw that piece laying there and saw the place for it on the other side. I thought, oh, this must be how you make the guitar for a lefty. Even though the place is threaded LOL. I guess I just thought that held it in place. Anyway, I feel dumb.
But...I still believe that it's ok to open the guitar. Just disregard my so called "proof" statement and the rest will read just fine.

You don't have to open the guitar up for lefty players. The screw can be screwed/unscrewed. But I do believe that simply opening up the guitar does not and should not void the warranty. The EA Warranty Sticky thread says "If you open your guitar casing to attempt to fix the peripheral yourselves you are voiding your warranty."

Its interesting that the guitars can be so different. I'm not going to open mine up since it works so well, but I noticed some obvious differences on the exterior:
Sticker on the back of the new one is slightly different...same info/model numbers but arranged differently.
Old guitar had 5 screws on the back of the head...new one only has 4.
Black screws on old...new one appears to have silver screws.
Old guitar also had 'dimples' between the screws on the neck that are missing on the replacement.
New one has a 'cut out' for a label near the battery compartment that is not present on the old one.

That's odd. I know for a fact that I have a first generation model. I've looked inside and it has the metal contacts that lay down long ways. But the back of the head has 4 screws. My screws are black though. I don't know what you mean by dimples so I guess mine doesn't have those either. There is a slightly sunken in area for my label which is located next to the battery compartment. So it sounds like my first gen model is a mix of all of those things. I ordered a replacement earlier today. I just hope I get the 4th gen model.
EDIT: Oh, I see what you mean by cutout for a label. My original has that too. It's to the top left of the battery compartment.

"Interesting" isn't the word I would choose...
Someone posted in another thread that EA Support told them over the phone that they are shipping 4th Generation guitars as replacements now.
I'll repeat that, because it bears repeating.
They are shipping 4th Generation guitars...13 days after the game was released, and they've already gone through 4 different hardware designs.
Yeah, I wouldn't use "interesting" :)

Yeah, that was me. I talked to them today about my guitar. He said that I should receive the newer design with the magnets as a replacement. So I decided to go ahead with it. I know they will make other slight improvements over time, but as far as the design of the strumbar, hopefully this is the final design idea. I really like the idea of the new design. It sounds very promising. It should last a very long time.

No worries, it's an easy mistake to make :)

Yeah I know what you mean... My first guitar didn't have the "rattle" sound for the overdrive sensor but my new one does. My first guitar's fret buttons were silent, but my new guitar's orange and blue buttons are louder than the others. But as long as the strumbar works perfectly, I wouldn't care if my guitar was shipped to me splattered with pink polkadots lol

My new guitar makes the "rattle" sound you described, which doesn't bother me at all.
What bugs me is that all my fret buttons make really loud clicking noise, (the buttons near the head, not the small ones). I have the same post in the tech support section but I wanted to post here again to see if anyone else is bothered by this.
Not sure if mine is a 4th gen. The appearance (number of screws, screw color, labels, material) and strum bar feel exactly the same as the original model. I'll just have to give it a few days too see it it deteriorates.

I don't even notice the fret clicks when I'm playing, but it's before a song starts when I'm fooling around that it's really noticeable. What's weird with mine is that it's only the orange and blue frets that click, the rest are silent.
If you are really curious to see what guitar you have you can open it up by taking the screws out of the back and seeing if the strumbar uses the magnets or microswitches.

ok, I finally made it out of the prison (Tech Support forum section lol) and here to the probation office. My replacement guitar arrived and it is everything the original one was except that it works and the strumbar is even better in my opinion!
Two hours of playing it didn't break it, and my mic and drums are problem-free, so looks like now all we need is a microphone stand and possibly a proper drum throne (using a computer chair with arm rests removed lol) and hopefully we'll never have to look back (or we'll be able to look back on this fiasco with a bit of happy memory that it was all %#@$@#'ed up but it got resolved and now we can start complaining about what we want in RB2 that wasn't in RB ;)
