So the Wii has updated with a new "storage solution" which uses the SD system found in games like RB2 and GHWT to temporarily move VC and WW games stored on the SD. I have also heard on some reports that Nintendo now has the firmware on the Wii to support up to 32GB SDHC cards... So will RB2 (which was supporting 2GB SD because of previous limitations) be able to work with this update? Can anyone with a Wii test my theory that SDHC now works (my max card size is 2GB)?

If RB2 can work with SDHC on Wii, we will never run out of space...

There's some discussions there of not working and I think at least one person saying that the 4 gb workaround stopped working after the update.

What are you talking about? No one should have to use the 4GB "workaround" anymore, everything up to 32GB SDHCs are supported by the Wii UI. As far as what will still work with RB2 DLC, that's what I want to know...

EDIT: I now know what you are talking about. The previous storage limitations of RB2 on Wii seem to still be present, even after SDHC support came to the Wii Menu.

For the moment, it does not seem to be a solution. HMX appears to still be researching it, and hasn't made any official announcement. There may be a fix, there may not be.

IF they are able to fix it so it works, this might lead us eventually towards being able to export RB1 songs.

In the INFINITISMLY small chance that we do get a patch for allowing us to access to the SDHC, then it would seem EXTREMELY likely that we'd get a patch for RB1.

And that would be the awesome.

As it stands right now, I'd like to see a Rock Band Wii Online Track Pack, with like... 50 unreleased DLC songs, access to SDHC, Export of the RB2 tracks, and all the features of the main games.

Edit: But I'm thinking that it's going to be called Rock Band 3, and released on all systems with new tracks.

No, a patch for RB1 on Wii still wouldn't be possible. It never had any WFC support coded into it, so nothing will be patched there. And the Wii won't get exporting because of licensing issues with RB1.

However, if the SD Driver is contained withing the (rather large) RB2 save file on Wii Memory, that could be patched to support SDHC. The Wii would only allow for an update to an existing piece of data, and would not allow to load a new .iso entirely like a 360/PS3 update can to an on-disc title.

"Wii Online Track Pack"? That's called RB2 DLC.

Ah, yeah, I'd been doing some research on how the Wii operates as well, must have misinterperted how the OS (or lack thereof, more like) operated. I thought that a patch would have to be done to the OS version, and each subsequent, to allow access to tech back when an older game was released... Or something, thus making an export patch possible, but extremely unlikely.

Haha, yeah, I guess, but what I meant was...
Aw, nevermind.

Lol. I get what you're saying. A Wii patch for this is a little more likely than everyone seems to think though. Wii Menu 4.0 shows how much Nintendo cares about storage, how much the Wii truly can be changed, and the care for the ability for their consumers to keep buying digital games and content is important on all fronts.

I recall the old discussion threads where Wii-haters said the Wii could never support SDHC because of .dll file associations and whatnot... But look where we are now... I think Nintendo will continue to suprise us all.

I wish there they created a "gear box" aka external harddrive to store songs. Especially with the amount of songs that could become available. If 32gb card works please let me know.

Nintendo doesn't allow patches anyway. And they also have some very strange restrictions on licensing.

I thought the update supports SDHC no matter what.

Nintendo has title updates for Madworld and SSBB, although they come on discs in the for of 'System Updates'. A patch for RB2 SD compatability is completely possible given Nintendo's recent tech upgrades.

For now though, only 2GB cards are supported in RB2 and GHWT... 32GB HDSCs only work in the Wii Menu/SD Menu, Photo Channel, and WiiSpeak on build 4.0.

Those "updates" are not title updates/patches. They are just system updates stored on a disk for people who don't have Internet Access on their Wii. They are also just special updates for your Wii to make the games work, such as SSBB. The game sends you messages alerting you that new replays, stages, or pictures are available. Your Wii needs an update to be able to do that.

Several game discs, both first-party and third-party games, have included system software updates so that players who are not connected to the Internet can still update their system. Additionally this can "force" an upgrade by requiring the player to perform the update, without which the new game cannot be played. Some online games (such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii) have come with specific extra updates, such as being able to receive posts from game-specific addresses, so, regardless of the version of the software you have installed, it will install an update.

Still means a patch could be possible as part of a System Update. I understand that the updates for these games came with the disc. To this day there has been no online update or patch made to an officially released disc title on Wii, but it is still possible...

A patch for RB2 SD compatability is completely possible given Nintendo's recent tech upgrades.Mario Kart and Metroid also had system updates. They were minor updates to add game functionality to the system (such as Metroid's friend credit sharing or the Mario Kart channel). They weren't patches, and they came on disk.

This doesn't mean it's not possible, as the entire situation is still a bit nebulous. The big problem they have is if they don't make it backwards compatible, old games that sell to new system owners will stop working correctly.
