WTF? So it Is on the EA.com site yet I can't recieve it? This just keeps getting better and better.

Before all of you start jumping all over me about ho it is free. Stop whining etc... Let me say I am now on my second drum set in which every pad registers intermittently on rolls. ANd it took 2 weeks for my Express drumset to get to me.

It seems this board has a lot of pushovers who like to have **** shoved down there throat and told it tastes good.

I picked madden out of the sheer irony that when it first came out i played it and said "wow... I wouldn't pay 60 for this. I'd play it if I got it for free, though." And here I am.

I think one of the reasons for this is that EA owns the developer who made Mass Effect but they do not publish the game, Microsoft is the publisher. They would have to get permission from Microsoft to give the game away since it would be taking potential buyers away from Microsoft.. It is just one of the strange things that happened because of the timing of when EA bought Mass Effect.

They should just pay microsoft out of their pocket. Ughhhhhhh.

Well you see, that makes too much sense. Sometimes people don't think things completely through before they post their frustrations.

IMO, this is poor on EA's part. The money they lose on Mass Effect would more than make up for the negative PR they're currently suffering from.

I don't think the PR is all that bad. A lot of people don't even know that much about the game, and even if they are warned "hey, the guitar might break, and you'll have to send it back to get it replaced" I doubt that will stop them from buying the game. The only people who seem to be caring about the problems are people that hang out on these forums, which (myself included) means people that are mildly obsessed with this and/or other games.

As for the OP...

Sorry that you don't expect to get a major blockbuster release -- that just came out a couple weeks ago, no less -- for your suffering. Oh well. You should still be happy that EA is giving you a game. There isn't some written rule out there stating they should have done this, so I still give them credit, even if the selection of games is limited.

The fact that people expect EA to compensate them for a broken game is ridiculous. They're being nice enough to send guitars out, free of charge, and don't even charge you to mail back your broken one. I understand that its taken a while, but think about it...would you rather have them send you another one from the bad batch (read: another broken one) or wait a week or two, let them make a new batch, and send you one of those new and [supposedly] improved ones?

If you were to go buy anything else in any other store, and it didn't work the way you wanted, what do you think your options are? 99% of the time, your only option is to just bring it back and get a refund. EA is being incredibly generous, and I think there's this saying about a gift horse...

I dont really want to get itno a whole forum fight or anything but yea, they didnt have to send you a free game, they did it to get back customer satisfaction, what they did have to do though is send out free guitars and not charge shipping, theres a thing called a warrenty and if there wasnt, they would be sued for false advertisign and ****ty design (theres something along those lines that they can get sued for selling a broken product) thta would cost them more than all the added replacements put together.

They are not being
"nice enough" the game broke in a day. It is their game. This isn't NICE ENOUGH situation. This is their obligation in order to keep their reputation as a decent game publisher. I do understand it is nice of them to offer the game. I just want Mass Effect. I have Skate and Call Of Duty 4 already. Maybe OB..bah

Hold up.

Did you spend $180 in cash and/or trades to get your copy?

Because when you tell somebody "this $180 game has a reasonably good chance at being broken out of the box," it tends to stop people from buying the game.

I'm patiently waiting for my stuff to come in tomorrow. If that doesn't work, I'll be taking my free game and returning Rock Band, to Harmonix themselves if necessary. The amount of hassle for this game is beyond belief for such an expensive product. It is beyond me how a game with this many hardware problems that develop within hours or minutes of opening the package could have managed to slip through beta testing.

As an indicator of just how widespread this problem is, when I called tech support about getting a tracking number this morning I asked about how long I had to return the replacement in the event of it being damaged. She said "At this point, we're pretty much being told to not even care." They know that a huge number of these guitars, even if that number is in the minority, are defective and they are scrambling to get them fixed. It's not worth my time, hard-earned money nor the many good games I traded in to deal with these issues. You and I should both receive superior product and service for the price that EA is charging us. That is traditionally why EA games ost more, the "superior quality." So I have to say that if this is EA's "superior quality" then they may not be superior enough to maintain my patronage in the future.

The people who already got their free games did not get it through the email. They called tech support and essentially complained enough that they got a game for their dismal experience. I inquired about this earlier when I called about replacing mine, they will send out an email notice soon regarding game selection.

The notion that people shouldn't be compensated with any $50 to $60 game of their choice is laughable at best. EA offered a free game as a means of mitigating customer frustrations, so why split hairs over which one it is?

In point of fact, Rock Band has the potential to be a DLC cash cow for all parties involved, and it's simply inexcusable for an expensive product primarily referred to as a "platform" to be this unreliable.
