Can someone please tell me just how well the drums work when they aren't defective? Do they always pick up hits no matter where on the pad you strike them? Or do you always have to hit the center of the pad for them to work? How light can you hit them but still have it register?

I ask because I've just gotten my replacement drums and they have the same problem of not picking up hits as sometimes, and I'm wondering if this is the norm or not.

Unfortunately(for everyone else), it looks like I got very lucky with my drums. all of my drum pads work great. the drums work off of a piezo pickup which basically just senses vibrations and sends a signal down the wire.... The problem lies in the soldering of the wires to the piezo.... I have seen in several cases on my friends' games where there has just been horrible soldering jobs which don't seem to keep it from working normally... just slowing the response time so it will only stop working when you hit it multiple times... if you know how to solder and there's a radio shack nearby, you should be fine to fix the problem (although I'm 99% sure this will void you're warranty)... Also, you should basically be able to hit the drum fairly lightly, and still have it work... these things are pretty sensitive.

Yes, my drum pads register with just a slight tap (just let the drum stick fall), and even if I hit on the plastic edge. Haven't had any problems yet, and can even do those drum rolls (Ballroom Blitz on Hard).

Like some of these people have said I can hit the outside plastic of the red and green pads and it will be picked up. It's almost like they are actually too sensitive.

Quick question for you.....what model number are your drums? I started another topic and was trying to figure out if there is a certain model number that is working better. You can find the model number underneath the red pad. I'm having the red pad problem, and my replacement set is doing the same thing, my model number is 822149. Thanks.

Ok, but those of you with good pads, do they pick up hits pretty much wherever you hit the pad? With mine, it does pick up if you hit the black rims, but if you hit more towards the extremities of the pad itself, it tends to not pick it up.

Mine picks up everything. No matter how slow or fast I hit it. I'm not really proficient in drumming. So I'm not 5* expert songs, but I've messed with them in practice mode and can hit a roll or two if I try.

my drums work fine, i can do fast rolls and slow hits, all registering and not skipping any notes. hard and soft touch, center, edges and plastic rim of drums all register. My problem is the bass pedal snapped.

Just checked the drums. My drum model number is also 822149. Does this mean that my red pad might start crapping out on me?

My drums have been zero problem at all other than they are loud when striking them with the wooden sticks. They seem to be sensitive enough as I've got 1/8" thin computer foam cutout and stuck to each pad + shaping foam cut out into a little ball and stuck to the tip of each drum stick and that has reduced the noise by probably 80% and yet the pads have no problems picking up the sticks hitting them whether in the middle or on the sides.

my only real problem with the drums is that I stink and it's like trying to rub your stomach while patting your head lol.

Guitar...that's a whole diff story but I got good drums (and mic!)

Yeah, that's the problem that everyone is having (well, besides the whole pedal snapping thing). Just an FYI, I couldn't even come close to beating the last couple songs on hard with the way that my red pad was, so I tried the tape idea, and beat the rest of my hard career without failing. Kinda glad to see that seeing as how I played drums until I was 18, and didn't really wanna believe that I lost the ability to play in 10 years. :) Try the tape thing until they come out with a good set for a replacement.

Fortunately, I don't have any Drum Problems with my Original set and since I live in a dorm room. lots of people have been playing my drums since I got the game....its the Guitar that I am having problems with....but until I can get around to ordering my new Guitar, it makes a great bass and the Guitar Hero Guitars are making great guitars. Take any kind of tape (I'm using hockey tape....the original thread I read said to use athletic tape) and tape the head of the drum in a crossing fashion so as to compress the pad into itself. If you search the forum you can find the original post.

I got very lucky with everything but the guitar. The drums work great and pick up everything, even slight taps on the edge. Mic works great.

Guitar was a different story, but the replacement works great...

i just filled a warranty for my drum pads, i dont wanna have to rig my set just for it to work right. that is, unless the next one is f#&ked up. then ill just beat it with my stool until pieces go everywhere:D

i tried this last night because my new drums are still dropping occassional hits (probably 1 out of 15) and it made mine much much worse.

I just received my new drum kit. Model number is the same but it works way better(same model number posted on this thread). I tried it in practice mode and it doesn't seem like any notes are being dropped on any pad. Previous set would drop every 6th to 8th note on red and yellow. I couldn't beat GG &HT on hard but got 4 stars on first try with the new set (and didn't have to use star power once).

If your drum set is dropping notes at all, I suggest you request a new set.

We stopped having problems here when we changed the lag to rear projection.
It was like night and day her.

The only trouble i've had with mine was due to timing... They seem to work pretty well for me, sometime too much so..

Idk about mine. They seem to work fine, but I sometimes miss yellows and reds for no reason. Plus I play the drums and im messing up on the simple beats. It doesnt seem right. It could be my calibration but idk....and i just sent my guitar in too. So dumb.

your drum pads should register a hit no matter if you hit the center or the outside rim and mine are very sensitive. just like another user stated, if you just let the stick fall with its own weight, it should register a hit no matter where it hits on the pad.
