View Full Version : Are the red and green drum pads supposed to be loose as hell?

I got my replacement drums today and the red/green pads are super loose to the touch...I can lift up on them gently and they lift up about 1 cm...my original drums did not work out of the box but the red/green pads only have a tiny amount of give to them...I haven't hooked them up yet to see if they work well (I doubt it considering peoples' solution to the drum problems is to tape the pads DOWN firmly) but I'm just curious how everyone's drums are manufactured...I have two with the same model number but are put together very differently...

Hey man, I'm in the same kind of situation...except it's just the red pad for me. Obviously, that pad will usually receive the most wear and tear, but my red pad seems significantly more loose than the 3 others.

Does anybody know how I can mod/fix my red pad?

It still works okay, but like I said it's very loose, i.e. I can tilt the red pad back and forth with my hands much easier than the other pads.

It should be fine for the most pat. They come off pretty easy though if you want to mod them. I would suggest doing this for the Red and Green pads is this...
Take the pad off (be careful not to pull the wire though) carefully. Then you see the center where there is a round foam pad.
Take a couple of pieces of cardboard from your box it came in (1 1/2" square pieces, and place them in there flat. What this will do is put a little more pressure on the Peizo Sensor to keep it from vibrating too much (missing too many notes on drum rolls).

Other then that; the only other problem anyone is having is that the pads will crack under pressure if you whack them too hard constantly. Same goes for the Bass Pedal.
Mine are all working perfectly so far (knock on wood).
I did mod my pads with stiff foam flooring mats (cut to fit) to quiet the pads though (70%+ less noise), because I do hit them pretty hard at times. This added quite a bit of bounce back as well.

thank you for the quick response. i'll try putting some sort of material on my pads for bounceback/quietness purposes and hope that they help with my problem too.
