well folks this is the thread for tonights game and as a patriots fan i gotta say i'm somewhat ****ting bricks here. they just scored a TD to tie it up 17-17 but for the second week in a row they're behind against a team that they are "favored" to win by over 20 points. the steelers are looking like a formidable opponent next week :\
also ESPN seem to have taken a lesson from sunday football night in america or whatever its called and blasting classic rock before a commercial break with today's choice being led zeppelin

Sigh... What really sucks is they are going to go back to the Sportscenter studio after the game or tomorrow morning on First Take and Mercury Morris from the 72 Dolphins is going to be talking trash about why his team is better.
God, I hate Mercury Morris so much.

yeah idk. even after the past two games i still say the steelers aren't in the colts/pats league. they lost to the jets, the cardinals (when they were struggling), and the broncos (when they were struggling). they're overrated but still it will be tough.
after the past two games and the one against the steelers i think the pats deserve their 2 week "break" after next sunday (they're playing the jets rofl)

Well I think the Pats have the best chance of losing to the Steelers out of the remaining teams they play. Their is no way they will lose to the Dolphins or the Jets and if they did I would faint. The Giants maybe but I still think the Giants are to psychophrenic to beat the Pats (with the Giants they are are great or they are awful) .

Oh yeah, I totally agree. While the Steelers aren't the toughest test of the season they are clearly the best team thats left. Maybe there will be a a reasonable spread for next weekend's game.
battle_axe_of_doom
12-03-2007, 03:06 PM
^ speaking of the spread, i find it coincidental that when popular HBO program inside the nfl gives the other team a 0% chance of winning against the pats it turns out to be a close game
now requesting inside the nfl to never give an opponent 0% chance.
and i don't think anyone said the steelers dont' have the best chance, but the steelers aren't that great. they've beaten relatively weak teams and lost to some weaker ones.
also about the giants while the giants are about hte only team that i "like" in the nfc evne when they're on their good day there is no way they can score as many points as them. yeah ik they scored 35 on the cowboys in a losing effort, but the giants usually score 24 points and rely on their defense to win. their front seven is good, but their secondary is extremely lacking.

No bricks here. Here's what I was thinking....
3-2-BAL 36 (3:54) 7-K.Boller pass short right to 23-W.McGahee to BAL 37 for 1 yard (37-R.Harrison).
and that's exactly when I said it's over and the Pats would win. Patriot magic activate! :p
Timeout #2 by BAL at 01:48.
Oops.
4-1-BAL 30 (1:48) 44-H.Evans up the middle to BAL 31 for -1 yards. PENALTY on NE-71-R.Hochstein, False Start, 5 yards, enforced at BAL 30 - No Play.
Oh no,now they'll have to pass. /sarcasm
4-6-BAL 35 (1:48) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady scrambles up the middle to BAL 23 for 12 yards (52-R.Lewis). PENALTY on BAL-22-S.Rolle, Illegal Contact, 5 yards, enforced at BAL 23.
-Insert evil laugh here- What else did you think would happen? That they weren't gonna make it?
4-5-BAL 13 (:55) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass incomplete short middle to 84-B.Watson. PENALTY on BAL-28-J.Winborne, Defensive Holding, 5 yards, enforced at BAL 13 - No Play.
Of course.
1-8-BAL 8 (:55) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass short left to 10-J.Gaffney for 8 yards, TOUCHDOWN. PENALTY on BAL-57-B.Scott, Unsportsmanlike Conduct, 15 yards, enforced between downs. PENALTY on BAL-57-B.Scott, Unsportsmanlike Conduct, 15 yards, enforced between downs. The Replay Assistant challenged the pass completion ruling, and the play was Upheld.
and it's done. Even if it was overturned with all the penalties they would've had it on the 1.
2-10-BAL 45 (:08) (Shotgun) 7-K.Boller pass deep right to 89-M.Clayton to NE 3 for 52 yards (52-E.Alexander).
END GAME
*Wags finger*
Steelers would have a good chance if the game was in Pitt.
Jets,Dolphins,0.0001% chance.
Giants...if they decide to rest up for the playoffs maybe cause if Peyton can't beat them Eli won't.

i don't see how any of that changes the fact that the patriots pulled off a great comeback against a ravens team that while have been down the past couple of weeks played their ****in hearts out for a slain ex-teammate.
kornheiser said it better: "did the pats get lucky [on some plays/calls/TOdecisions], yes BUT luck is part of the game."
ik its easy to say that luck went their way so be it or vice versa (pats were lucky to win), but fact of the matter is they showed that they aren't gonna give up no matter how bad they've been getting their ass kicked for 3 quarters. 4th quarter and that final score is all that matters when it all comes down to it, lucky or not

I love how the Ravens are whining about how they got hosed by the officials. Unless all the bad calls happened in the first half (when I was watching Chuck and Heroes), I didn't see any egregious calls - if anything, it looked to me like the refs wanted the Pats to lose, not the other way around.
What a bunch of babies. You played a good game, but you lost. Man up and deal with it. And Ray Lewis is an ***hole. Way to throw your coach under the bus when he was one of the people that stood behind you while you lawyered your way out of a murder conviction.

Please... NFC Championship Game is going to be Cowboys vs Bucs and the Super Bowl will be either Steelers vs Cowboys (if the Pats go undefeated for the season) or Pats vs Cowboys (if the Pats don't go undefeated)
Any team that puts in the effort to go undefeated in the regular season won't have enough gas for the playoffs, especially a team with a couple of oldies on it. I think Bellicheck will calm it down once he has home field, though. He is too smart to go for undefeated. So I believe the Super Bowl will be Pats 35, Dallas 38. I still believe that the Pats Cowboys game was closer than the score indicates because the Pats kept scoring after the game was out of reach.
The football gods will get vengance on the Pats for all the unsportsman like conduct the first 7 games of the season.

i must be the only person on earth who can see the truth about the steelers. give me a list of the teams they beat and the teams they lost to and try to tell me that ANY of those teams are good enough to merit them the best in the league. the steelers are overrated cuz they are the steelers. everybody talks about the pats weak schedule yet they played the colts (and beat them), they played the cowboys (and beat them ;):p:D:cool:), and they beat a chargers team in the second week of the nfl when people still had strong expectations for them (and beat them). i seriously dont' understand how a team who lost to the jets, broncos, and cardinals can compete with a team as powerful as the pats. but we'll see next weekend

and about the cowboys they arent' nearly as good as their 11-1 record (or whatever they are). the first REAL team they played they lost to. by 21 points. at home. in dallas. yeah they beat the packers, but brett favre left the game. yeah ik he somewhat stunk up the place (supposedly) but the packers adjusted their offensive game plan and with favre throwing instead of aaron rogers it would have been a different story. but like i said earlier SHOULDA,WOULDA,COULDA don't matter in football once that final score is in. so my point being.... You kidding me? So then the Bucs are better than their record? 8 and 4? They had a more cakewalk schedule than the Cowboys.
Aaron Rodgers is the future of Green Bay. He is a very capable Quarterback who was playing just as good as Favre in that game. All Favre did that game was launch bombs and pray they didn't get picked off. Rodgers was actually throwing strikes. Did you even see the game? Rodgers has been learning from Favre for 4 years, just as Romo has been learning from Bledsoe.
BTW, 14 of those 21 points were in the last two minutes of the game... Classy...
Cowboys hate is normal. You get used to it. Especially from Pats fans. When yall won 3 superbowls out of 4 years, the year you didn't win the super bowl you didn't even make the playoffs. When Cowboys went 3 of 4, the year we didn't win the Super Bowl was because we lost to Steve Young and Jerry Rice in the NFC Championship game. I've been arguing this with Pats fans for years.

Exactly. These are teams of PRO football players. You never know who is going to show up on Sunday. The same Eagles team that we molly whopped played the Pats better than we did. And look at the friggin browns! I thought we were going to have a top 5 draft pick this year (we traded our draft pick last year for the browns pick this year) and they are really doing well and would be even better had the refs actually called a force out for K2.
Strength of Schedule applies only to college football. When it comes to the NFL, you have about 20 players from about 150 D1 and D2 teams (about 3000 players) and only 300 get in to the NFL each year. The NFL is home to the best football players in America and you can get whipped no matter what team you play.

oh and eastwood you're making it seem as if i'm a patriots "FAN". i merely like the pats because when houston oilers moved to tenessee i had no one to root for and i liked ty law, lawyer millow, drew bledsoe, curtis martin, and terry glenn so i chose the pats as my team. if the texans played the pats (which they have) i'd put my money on the texans ALL THE TIME. i'd rather buy a schaub jersey than a brady jersey TTYTT

The fact that you go to ESPN for anything more than entertainment shows that you don't really know football. ESPN doesn't care about facts, they care about ratings. Sean Salsbury will look straight into the camera on NFL Live and say "This will be another mark in the win column for the Steelers, you can count on it." Then when the Jets (one of your "easy" teams) beat them he is right back on NFL Live that night saying "thats why I love this league. Nothing is set in stone and there is nothing that can be predicted."
Take the Packers... At the beginning of the season, every pundit on ESPN was saying that the PAckers were going to have a losing season and that Brett Favre should have retired.
When teams start believing their own hype, they fall into trap games. They start having close games (sound familiar?). Losing your focus for any period of time in the NFL can lead to a loss. That applies to everyone. There aren't any "boys amongst men" like in college. You fall asleep, you are done for the day. Patriots got lucky, which as you pointed out, is what a good team needs sometimes.

Aaron Rodgers is a quarterback product of the Jeff Tedford system.
Other Jeff Tedford quarterbacks:
Akili Smith (3rd overall pick 1999 draft)
Trent Dilfer (6th overall pick 1994 draft) Yes, he did accidentally win a Super Bowl.
Joey Harrington (3rd overall pick 2002 draft)
Kyle Boller (19th overall pick 2003 draft)
I think thats enough said

Pats are not a team that is going to believe their own hype.
They weren't in 2 close games because they got cocky...this team is never unprepared. They simply didn't execute very well in the 2 games they almost lost.
That's why it's so hard to go undefeated in a 16 game schedule...you're going to have a few sloppy games late down the line; they are human.
And as others have mentioned, there are a lot of teams with nothing left to lose who would want nothing more than to knock one team off...I'm sure Ray Lewis and Ed Reed were both sharpening their boot knives for that game.
Thing is, as a Steelers fan, I absolutely LOVE seeing the Ravens have a total breakdown. Most classless organization in pro sports as far as I'm concerned. I've never seen 2 teams talk more **** and produce less than the Bengals and the Ravens. Every ****ing year we have to suffer through Chad Johnson guaranteeing a playoff berth and every ****ing year we have to suffer through Ray Lewis saying they have the greatest defense to ever exist (despite not leading any major category).
I just love after the Steelers Ravens game earlier this year when Baltimore turned it over like 4 times in their own side of the field, Ray Lewis was talking about how "ANYBODY CAN SCORE DOWN THERE MANG, ANYONE CAN DONE MAKE PLAYZ DOWN DERE DAWG" and then he pointed out that in the second half, Pittsburgh only scored 3 points. Well Ray, maybe it was because they were up 35 to ****ing nothing after the first half and were sitting on the lead?
But who is to blame against the Pats Ray? Kyle Boller played the game of his life (which is funny because he still ****ed up) but it was the Ravens best D evar who thought tackling the receivers after getting beat was a legit tactic. I'm surprised Bart Scott didn't pull a ****ing blade on the ref and shank that guy, and I'm surprised Ed Reed wasn't packing his 9 for this one.
Christ, Baltimore should stick to getting away with murder and dealing crack...never seen a bigger group of grown men crying about everything and acting like thugs. Take a ****ing loss without whining about the refs or your own team or something...the team is a disgrace to the NFL.
Oh yeah, monday night football and stuff...

Why are you yelling at the ref like he blew a call just then? Take that back... He was yelling at the ref like the ref just slapped Gisele on the ass. Games over. You won. Walk off the field and enjoy it.
He is a good leader because he is such a *****. Tom Brady is an outstanding QB, but I don't get the whole dog and pony show that Brady should be sanctified or some ****. No one loves him outside of Boston, just like no one loves T.O. except for the fans of the team he plays for.

Yeah, I get really sick of listening to Tom Brady after a game where they score 7 TDs, saying we didn't score enough points, the coach is gonna ride us hard. Shut the **** up you piece of trailer park trash, I hate you. He whines complains and thinks he's awesome.

Patriots got lucky, which as you pointed out, is what a good team needs sometimes.
did i say that ESPN is my only source football?? i watch espn just to watch espn. i don't take everything they say as the be all, end all of sports. i watch it for around the horn, PTI, and the around the clock sports update. seriously you need to stop assuming **** about me man
and i agree about ESPN being cockbags who can't stand by their word. i've always thought they were a bunch of bandwagoners that don't know **** and always seem to flip flop on everything they say. especially when it comes to the colts... NFL live should be renamed NFL lets gag on the colts for 6 years and predict them to win the superbowl every year Live

Relax, bro! All football discussions should be all in good fun and not taken personally. ;)
I DVR Around the Horn, every day myself.
