Wii Rock Band drums won't stay synchronized

I'm having issues with the drum kit on the Wii. I'll start playing a song, and then halfway through the game will stop registering that I'm hitting the pads. It will register 1 out of every 8 or 10 notes. I've tried resynchronizing the drums with the USB dongle, but it still works. I've replaced batteries, but no dice. Please help!! Are these just faulty drums that I need to return?

Sounds like a sensitivity issue to me. If it was battery-jarring, you wouldn't stay synced at all.
