View Full Version : What Do You Expect In the (Inevitable) First Major Update?

Well it's obvious there will be a major update (I predict two or three weeks max) as Harmonix have been attentive to fans so far and if Neversoft can do it Harmonix can do it better. What do you expect?

I expect waivering of the fan cap as being the only major update. Maybe a bug or two squashed or lag issues treated. MAYBE a way to change leaders or assign a co-leader.

I'm thinking either fan cap or the ability to change instruments for a single character.

i would go out on a limb and say chart scrolling speed in the options. for each instrument, per gametag. it would be saved like the calibration is.

GH3 controller compatibility being patched in to Rock Band on the PS3 is the only thing I'm after.

It doesn't matter what else it's got, if they don't add that, I'll be disappointed.

Why would you expect something that they already said they wouldn't do?

Online BWT eventually...

IGN: Why isn't there any online play in BWT?

Teasdale: Rock Band features several local and online modes from its deep solo adventure to its expansive full band experience. We want to make sure that the online experience with Band World Tour is perfect and bug-free, and as in-depth and fun as the other modes. In order to do that we'll be bringing online Band World Tour to you at a later date.

Where did they say that (just curious)?

Actually, I was thinking about removing the kick pedal. Sorry for the confusion.

it's been confirmed as not coming to rock band (this version anyways).

Where was it confirmed? Is there a statement on the 'net or something?

I know virtually nothing about the PSN...is the lack of voice chat a limitation of PSN or RB specifically? Do other games on PS3 have voice chat online?

I don't understand why people want the fan caps removed. If you want more fans why don't you just play on a higher difficulty. It's part of the game. If that were removed why would people even try to get better at the game?

Every other online game I own on PS3 (which is a few) has voice chat, it's a PSN features that Rock Band is simply not using.

List of Games I Own With Voicechat:
Warhawk
Motorstorm
Resistance
Calling All Cars
Guitar Hero 3
Eye of Judgment

There are many more. So yeah, it's Rock Band, not PSN. Actually, having owned a 360, PSN voice chat is much clearer audio.

Only thing I see is voicechat and guitar compatiblity for the PS3. I don't see Harmonix actually making any gameplay changes at all.

Honestly, I'd like the fan cap gone, but the only ones I really want are:

PS3 Voice Chat
PS3 Les Paul support
PS3 Ability To Copy Save Files

Wow... they kinda shafted us PS3 owners. Three bugs/issues and no hub. Thanks a lot!

PSN has voice chat built into it. It's used in Warhawk, for sure, and probably several other games (that I don't have).

The implementation of Rock Band on the PS3 does use PSN for the friend invites, but that's about the only thing it takes advantage of. I imagine since they've already done the hard parts (hooking into PSN and accessing voice chat on the 360), it shouldn't take too much razzle-dazzle to get the PSN voice chat up and running, too.

And while they're at it, they can set up the Players Met function so you don't have to keep a notepad (physical or virtual) at hand to remember who you've played with that you want to add to your friends.

Qwitcher *****in'. You got four USB ports on your PS3, anyway, and they gave you a wireless guitar, which will cost $20 more on the 360.

But yeah, if they gave me a hub, I'd use it with my notebook machine.

And I didn't know GH3 had hooked into voice chat...never saw it on any of the menus...

The 40GB PS3 does not have enough USB ports. It was announced too late for RB to address it though.

For the thread, I don't expect the fan cap to be removed since that requires rebalancing the BWT. They have bug fixes they should (and probably are) focusing on.

- Can't chat when a guest is on your system (360)
- Drum fills get screwy if someone fails
- Quitting online matches doesn't break streak
- Etc. (I had a couple others, but can't remember them)

Umm, my PS3 only has two USB ports. I had to buy a hub separately.

Incidentally, they didn't GIVE us anything, and since we're talking about it, I'd have preferred a wired guitar. Too much swapping batteries in and out with wireless.

I definitely want the ability to use just one avatar for all three instruments. I love the way my guy looks and want to see him rock out some drums or bust some vocals too.

The ability to change band leaders around or a co-leader would be very nice as well.

I also would love an option to just noodle around on the drums. Use it as a sort of low end electric drum kit.

I was speaking specifically of SoulScreme, whose sig says he has a 60GB model.

He's the only one I get snarky with around here anyway.

They did from the perspective of "the 360 got the hub but a wired guitar."

And while you may prefer not to buy batteries, if you ever end up playing the game in front of a screen that's 48" or larger, you'll be pretty happy that all four of you aren't tethered to a 10' semicircle in front of the screen.

I'm hoping the front-end for online multiplayer is tweaked somewhat. I want to choose not to be a leader, and have a choice for bass/guitar before we get into the song.

Leader should be able to pick bandname. Better leaderboard...

* Fixed glitch with band members failing during drum fills

* Fixed vocalist failure glitch during big rock endings

* Add "retry song" as an option from the stats screen after a peformance.

* Add info to online leaderboards to show relative placement. It's great that I can be ranked 600 on a song... but is that 600 out of 1000? 10,000? 100,000? No way to tell the total number of players on a given leaderboard.

* Change the default hover option in the UI so it is not focused on "Create New Character" all of the time.

None of these in themselves are game breaker, just a few slight annoyances that it would be nice to see patched up. The last one especially--I dont know how many times I've seen people, especially new players, get lost in the character builder because it happened to be the first thing highlighted when selecting an avatar. And there's really no reason for it considering how situationally useful that button is.

I already do, my projector throws at least an 80 inch image onto the wall, but the cable lengths for the drums and microphone serve just fine. Provided the PS3 is placed well, it doesn't really matter whether the guitar's wired or not.

Ultimately, wired vs wireless is a preference that boils down to personal opinion. I wouldn't be so quick to assume that wireless is the preferred favourite.

Did the ever flat-out say that BWT online wouldnt be in this version? All the wording Ive seen from HMX has danced very carefully around the issue. Using words that dont absolutely say "not until Rockband 2".

With the semi-announcement of Guitar Hero 4 in the Activition merger documents, I was kind of hoping that HMX would stick to the idea that Rockband as a platform for music distribution, and not something they will churn out year after year, like GH.

I still have hope :)

I haven't played RB yet, but have been following this forum since the lampost days. I've seen alleged patch comments come and go. I've seen people choosing to interpret comments as an imminent online BWT patch, but nothing firm has ever been announced. In the same way GHII was supposed to have online capability that didn't appear, I see online BWT coming with RB2.

Just my thoughts.

Sorry for the double post. I forgot to put my guess in re the update.

My guess is to enable linking of stats from the console to the upcoming community website. Similar to GHIII.

I'd say the update will put in a new sorting option (difficulty, genre, decade etc.) for albums in the quick play mode. It would be really nice if they also put in the ability to keep track of high scores localy on a console like the GH games for the quick play mode. The quick play mode feels like a waste without it.

Absolutely, and that's why I shelled out the extra cash to get wireless guitars for my PS2 back when I was playing GH1/2/80's. Playing on a short leash in front of a 65" DLP screen was giving me nasty headaches.

But these are USB cables. You can always just go buy a USB extension cable for a few bucks :)
