Got my new drums this afternoon. Totally different design than my oldies, but still 822149 model number. I'll list the differences:
1. Pedal, slightly different plastic, divot toward the hinge on the front of the pedal. Slightly thicker and sturdier looking.
2. Drum pads are very different. the padding under the pads is much less 'springy' drums aren't held all the way up like on the old set. Also, on the red and green pads, the foam is not attached to the heads, but the bottom side of the enclosure. Responsiveness is GREAT. On the red pad I can now hit as fast as I want, hard or soft, and I get all the hits registering. This is true with all the other pads as well. Very happy after reading all the issues here, that there are good sets out there.
Also, the little rubber stoppers that hold the pads to the unit (underneath) are softer, and pointy rubber, whereas the old ones where like cones with flat tops.
Just wanted to let everyone here know that I did get a drumset that works as it should, and not to give up hope. I described the differences for informational purposes and comparison, to help determine if these are indicative of the 'good' model or I just got lucky.

Good to hear the drums they are sending out are better and work as intended. I just requested my replacement today, so hopefully my drums come soon and are working properly.

You just described the drum set I got on launch day... Course my launch day set works like a dream so I doubt you have to worry.

You just described all 3 of my sets (one launch, two replacements). None work.

OK, now I am officially confused. You just described my first drumset that I got at launch. The pedal that came with my first set had the divot you are talking about but I assure you it was not sturdier. I compared the two and the one without the divot is made better. If you look at the underside of the foot pedal there is more plastic for support. My first pedal just had the cross design. The new one has that same design along with two more "walls" of plastic running parellel with the pedal.
On my first set, the foam was not attached to the heads, but at the base. I only removed and looked under the red pads. On my new set the foam is attached to the head and even has a layer of plastic over the foam. On the new set, there is a white connector connecting the pad. On the first one it was soldered directly to the inside of the base. My launch set had the pointy rubber. The set I have now has the cones with flat tops. My new set is more sensitive, but my last set was overall less responsive. I closely examined every piece of my replacement kit and saw small differences in everything.
The thing is, my replacement set seemed improved in every way. Even the latches to raise and lower the stand look cleaner because the metal rod holding the latch is covered. On my first set you could see into the hole containing the metal bar. My replacement is definately better, I'm just now having the red drum issue where rolls and hard hits don't want to register correctly.
The sensors on my first set were different. They were round and covered with a piece of tape that looked like bandaid material. The newer sensors are a spring held under an orange piece with a screw on each side.
I'm very glad to hear that your set is working great. But I am very confused as to why your replacement set is like my launch set and visa versa. Can you take some comparison pics?

Actually, my replacement drums are just like the ones in this post and I'm positive this is the problem with my set as well.

Not sure about the pedal, but I can assure you the 'divot' one I have now, after a direct comparison, is bettter quality plastic/thicker plastic.
As for the set:
"My replacement is definately better, I'm just now having the red drum issue where rolls and hard hits don't want to register correctly."
That is EXACTLY the issue I had with that set (the only issue besides the drum pedal snapping) and this new set is SUPER responsive, every hit registers, which is what I'm looking for.
I haven't taken the heads off yet, and don't plan do unless I run into issues. But I can say that every hit I make registers on every head, I've been getting scores impossible to get before on hard and expert.
Also, the comments about the base and stuff are backward from what I have found. The base hardware on my new set is sturdier, and the locks hold better. The base itself is made of thicker, textured plastic.
I'll try to get some pics in today.

Yes, my original set was like the one in that post you have there. And it sucked. Badly. No fast hits, intermittent responsiveness on all pads when even playing semi-fast notes. Totally unrockable.

Maybe the set they are sending out as a replacement is a mix of both sets. On my first set, which sounds like what you have now, all of my pads would randomly miss hits making it impossible to get 5 stars. On my replacement, the blue, yellow, and green are perfect. My red pad is perfect while taped down. I was under the impression that they always send out the latest model for replacements. Maybe that is just with the guitar. I don't know. All I know is from my experience, my replacement seems superior to my first one in many ways. I figured the design I have now is the newer design since it was sent out as a replacement and I can see improvements.
But, I'm thinking, and hoping, that yours is made even better. Maybe they have found a way to make the bass pedal even more sturdy. We definately can't identify a bass pedal by saying it has a divot. Yours and mine could be the same design just from a different line or something. A guy posted last night that the pads on his new set were different. Like a different material. He also said that the red pad is different from the other three. They probably mix and match parts. For all we know each line could be using a different combination of parts. At this point, I have no idea which pad design is the "newer" design. Could you snap some pics of your bass pedal. Like the orange piece where the magnet is and the underside. I'd like to compare to see if we have the same pedal or if yours is like my first one. I really want to get to the bottom of all this.

Here are a few pics of the pedal.

My first pedal had a totally different orange piece, with a little tab to hold the little magnet or whatever it is:

Question on that new pedal...is the orange piece that goes into the bass to hit the switch closer to the toe, heel, or the same spot?

This is crazy. The pedal that you broke, with the extra orange tab, is the one I got as a replacement. The one I got at launch is the same as the one you got as a replacement. My first pedal didn't break, but I compared them and chose the one with the tab because it looks to be more sturdy. Even in that pic of the broken piece you can see there is more plastic. There are the "walls" of plastic that cross but also those two walls that run parallel with the pedal. It just seems better to me. Comparing the two pedals, it seems the one your broke is the newer design. But that is just my opinion. I really don't know anymore since they sent you and me different replacements. I guess both of these models are launch models and they haven't actually made a new design yet to correct any flaws. With the gutiar, I know they have made corrections and have different models. They say they are on 4th gen now. I haven't heard anything like that about the drums. I guess when the drums fail, they just send out one of the two launch designs. We just happened to get one of each in the opposite order. That is the only thing I can figure. It's been two weeks. Hopefully we'll figure out what is going on soon.

It is in the same spot, except for the tab that sticks out. The magnet is under the tab. So in that pic of the broken pedal, the magnet is closer to the toe. So the main part of the orange piece is in the same spot, with an added tab.

The thing I noticed about my new pedal, is that the bracing and the outside walls were slightly thicker, when doing a direct comparison.
Also, the plastic has sort of a sheen to it, where as the plastic on broken pedal was chalky and flat looking...and I had 1 crack in the pedal, and 4 in the base. Very flimsy.
Who knows, crazy.
