View Full Version : Replacement guitar 100x worse than old one!

After nearly two weeks of waiting, i finally get my replacement guitar today. I open it up and i notice it's got light scratches on it. Like if they wiped it with a dirty rag or something. Not terribly noticeable but still pissed me off. But i said oh well, as long as it works.

So i hook it up and start navigating the menus and i can see right away that the strum bar is crap. It doesnt double strum, which is good. But i have to press it down fairly far to get the downstrum to activate, and the upstrum is WAY worse! I have to strum all the way up to get it to activate. Weak. Okay, whatever, let's just play with it. Well, it sucks. When i play repetitive fast notes it's hard to hit them because i have to go so far down on the strumbar and it doesnt get back fast enough. There is very little tension. It's not as bad as the old one with the double strum and having to really slam it down to get it to work, but it's still bad. And god forbid i try to alt strum, since i have to go further with the up strum it really throws me off and it just doesn't work. The guitar is somewhat playable but it's not what it should be.

Then, another fear was realized. They didnt fix the god damn overdrive sensor! It's even worse than before! The instant i get the overdrive it goes off, regardless of how i'm holding the controller. Maybe the guitar is meant to be played standing and the face held perpendicular to the floor, but i dont want to play standing. I work 8 hrs a day on my feet. When i get home i take off my shoes as soon as i get home and i sit down and rock out. I want to rock out on my ass damn it!

Another thing is the fret buttons. God damn i have to press them hard. I dont know if they made them harder to be more durable or what, but jesus my fingers get really tired cause of how hard i have to press them. I compared them to my other guitar and they were definitely way harder to press. It's not a huge issue but it did throw me off a little in a few songs. And of course wears out my fingers faster. I dont think I could survive the endless setlist with this guitar.

I'm going to send my old one back and wait until i get my $100 back before ordering another one, but who knows when, if ever, i'll get one that works. Harmonix, for the love of god, fix the overdrive sensor so that we can play it sitting down!

Heh, I just got mine and needless to say it also had the same scratches on it which I also said fine as long as it works, I have yet to test it though but I'm afraid now that it's just going to do what yours is doing but maybe not.

We'll see. It sucks that you had to wait that long and it still doesn't work!

I guess the free game doesn't really matter.

Hehe sorry to laugh at your troubles, but it sounds like they sent you a Best Buy demo model! Seriously, the way you described it was almost exactly the same experience I had at Best Buy a few days ago on their demo Strat :)

I just got my replacement guitar and it's got the same exact issues you described. Wonky strum bar, scratches on the shell, and an unusable overdrive sensor.

Not sure if I want to bother with the hassle of getting another replacement, or wait a little longer until they get their stuff straightened out so I can be sure I'm getting a good one.

OH! I also had my drums replaced because they weren't sensitive enough. the new ones are great as far as sensitivity goes, as a matter of fact they play wonderfully. However, they too look like they're been used previously, scratches on the black parts and the rubber looks worn in certain areas, etc.

I'm not sure if they're sending us refurbs or not, and I don't really care if they work. But the least they can do is make them look new.

Yeah, my new fender just came today. When I removed it from packaging i could hear something inside that was rolling around (like a piece of plastic). The guitar worked just fine when I went to play it, but for how long? A statement that EA and Harmonix gave recently made it sound as if the defect with the guitars has been corrected. Whether we'll have to send one or two more back until we can get a working and reliable model is another story. At least they seem committed to ensuring that happens eventually.

That piece you are hearing is the tilt sensor. It's normal.

I took some pics and wrote a little entry about my replacement instruments on Destructoid. Here's a link for those interested.

If i got a best buy one that's totally weak. Either way i'm returning it. Hope i get a new scratch less, functional one next.

Jeeeez. I smell a lawsuit happening sometime in the near future if this really is the case with the replacement guitars. I don't feel so bad about NOT getting my guitar yet now because I only have the double-strum problem when I press too hard.

We should find out for sure. You should open it up and see if it has the new 4th gen design with the magnets. If it does, and it's scratched up like that then I think it's safe to assume they are just replacing the insides of returned guitars and sending them back out.

I got some replacement drums last week and they were brand new. No signs of being used. They work well, except the red pad, which I have taped down. It now works fine. I'm just waiting to hear that there is a new design before I request another replacement.

I told my wife I gonna leave a "deposit" inside my return guitar if they send me a broken one.
