The drums they shipped me are a bit different.
First, stand it a bit narrower...the cross bars that hold the feet together are narrower. I took the bars from each set and compared them. They shaved about an inch off.
Secondly, all the metal in the stand is no longer reflective like the old ones were. They seem a bit sturdier, but I'm not sure if thats just my imagination since it's newer.
The bass pedal is MUCH BETTER. Less resistance! This means it feels more like a real bass pedal and you can rest your foot in the down position without really having to push down. I imagine that this means less chance that they will break. I also played multi-player for about two hours and my legs weren't sore...
As for the drums themselves...well, they work. They're accurate...I guess that's all I can ask for. :)

That's cool. I have yet to notice any problems with my drumset though if it does happen to crap out I hope I get the new model you got, sounds much better!

Awesome, good to hear that the new ones are working better. Any chance you could snag a few pics of the comparison?

Here is the main question though. How is your red drum pad? Does it register hard, fast hits? I got my replacement set last week. I noticed that every piece of the kit was different in some way, except for the cords. You might have gotten the same new kit that I did. I had to tape my red drum pad down for it work 100% though. It's fine as long as there aren't any snare rolls or a lot of constant snare hits. I was getting 400+ note streaks today messing around on Hard so it's fine for basic beats and most of the songs in the beginning. Which is much better than my first set, which I was lucky to get a 50 or 60 note streak on.

Model numbers do not indicate what design you have. I know it sucks, but its true. My old set and new set both had the same number. The stickers were 100% identical. You should definately set it up and let us know how it goes. Like I said, my replacement is much better than my first one. I can actually 5 star songs now. With my first set all the pads were unresponsive at times so even though I would hit 95 or 96% notes I would still get 3 or 4 stars because my score was so low. I could barely keep a multiplier over 2X.

Unfortunately I've already boxed up the original and am taking it to UPS today. Really nothing to look at except a less shiny stand thats a bit narrower. Not sure a picture would really capture that very well.

My broken (but I fixed it) drum set had no problems with rolls...and my new one doesn't either.
Rolls are hard to do and keep consistent...might not be the drums. Knowing how the drums work, I'm not sure why taping it would make anything better. The micro-switch that registers the hits is directly under the pad...in fact you should barely have to tap your pad in order for it to register. The springiness of the pad is just to absorb the shock of the hit and so your sticks will get a bounce back.

ok .. now I'm starting to bum out about the "new" vs. "old" build quality designs. My drums seem to be OK .. It seems like I need to be fairly precise hitting the red and green pads, but the blue and green always register for just about everything. I'm going through Expert now and usually get 4 stars.
The date of my box is October 13, 2007 .. is this considered "new" or "old"?

It's harder to tell with the drums. Just when I thought we were able to tell, someone got a replacement set that was described just like my original "launch" set. He said it works great. My replacement set is just like his original set lol. So I'm clueless. I say that if its not a replacement it's considered old. If it is giving you trouble get a replacement. Or if it's good enough for now, just wait until we figure out if they have actually corrected the issue with the drums. My replacement set is a lot better than my first set. All of the pads were giving me random misses on the first set. With my new set I am only having issues with the red pad. I have it taped down and now they all work 100%. I dont feel I should have to use tape to make new drums work. But they work and I'm happy for now. I'm going to wait until I hear more about the root of this problem and if they make any changed before I request another replacement.

That sounds like a good idea. I'd hate to order a replacement and have it be "worse" than my current setup. Like I said, mine seem OK .. but if they come out with a confirmed new and improved kit, I'll probably check it out.
btw .. the game is frikkin great!

ohh ok thanks for the advice! i was jus wondering cuz so far my old drum set seems to be ok, so i didn't want to replace it with the same model, but i'll definitely unpack it now and see how it works!

I got my new drums yesterday sans bass pedal. The new drums are a lot better however I'll be playing along on a song like Reptilia on expert that is very 8th note oriented and I'm playing in a sequence of like say 100 8th notes and every 30 or so I somehow miss a note. Even the couple of fills in the song that are fast 16th notes on the snare drum (red) I play a solid string of notes, but miss one random note. It's just frustrating because playing the exact same thing on my real kit would sound perfect and nobody would even hear a flaw. I guess it's the mechanical nature of the game too where an eight note that is slightly off the beat would not be noticeable just listening, but to a computer is inaccurate. At any rate, I'm glad the new drums work a lot better. Now I'm just waiting on my guitar to arrive. :D

Could we get pictures of the new drum set? I would love to see what the differences are.

I also agree it is harder to tell if your drums are not responding to fast rolls. I have never played a day of drums in my life before ROCK BAND and I've worked my way to HARD drums and some of the rolling sections (like in PARANOID between verses, 5x R, 1x Y) I'm pretty sure I'm just not hitting it right. So unless I get a true drummer over (or I start getting better), i"ll never know.

does the new bass pedal still flex in the middle where cracks/breaks are happening? does it seem any more reinforced than your old one?

I'd also really like to know the answer to this question; my pedal replacement is on the way, and I'm trying to figure out what I should do to reinforce it? If the replacement models have been reinforced already, that would be great news. Thanks.

My last one didn't flex in the middle...primarily because I play heels down as it shows in the tutorials. It was just a bit more difficult to push down because the spring gave a lot more resistance.
