Well it's actually Vivendi thats buying Activision, but the result brings the two rockin' games into the same family. The new company is to be called Activision Blizzard, which sounds like something you might order at a Dairy Queen.
That's because Vivendi Games owns Blizzard among other studios, Including MTV Games, the makers of Rock Band. After they buy Activision, they'll own Guitar Hero also.
According to the New York Times, as far as revenue goes, the new gaming super-conglomerate will actually be bigger than EA.
And in a strange twist of fate, EA, now their biggest competitor, is the distributor for Rock Band. Did you follow all that? It's practically an episode of Desperate Housewives trying to figure out who is sleeping with who.
As the game business continues to grow, I think this trend of bigger and bigger mergers will continue. The only question is, who will EA buy next?
Oh, and sorry Harmonix. There is no escaping Activision. You have been assimilated.
They even had a cute pic about it.
