System: Nintendo Wii
Game: Rock band 2
Problem: Storage of DLC

Hi i read some post in the Rock band thread that there are some issues/rumors about the sd cards will Rock band 2 be able to use the sdhc that holds 8-32 Gigabytes cards instead of using a 2gb sd card that in may run out of room in the future then i would have to switch between sd cardssz when it would so much easier to use a high GigaBytes sdhc card?

if not then what size of sd card can it use?

The Wii Menu, Photo Channel, Shop Channel, and WiiSpeak can use up to a 32GB SDHC card...

However, RB2 and GHWT still have a 2GB SD limitation... I'm running out of room too, but Nintendo's tech doesn't allow for easy title updates. Let's hope HMX and Nintendo work out the tech for the next System Update (but it's doubtful).

BTW: Thank you for posting your question info so clearly, it made reading through it really easy. We get alot of bad grammar and lack of info on the tech threads.

Doesn't make sense to put a memory storage limitation on software so dependent on it. Has anyone fully tested this 2gb sd limitation?

Edit: Just to add I understand the hardware limitations but for them to specificaly put a code in the game limiting the amount of storage room on any given medium be it internal or external for that specific data (DLC)just makes no sense to me.

This is because the SD driver used by the Wii System Menu and RB2 are two different things entirely. The RB2 driver was built on an old build limitation, and disc titles (as far as we have seen) cannot be updated on the Wii.

It has been tested... To much disappointment. RB2 will give you a message saying that the card is unreadable.

Yeah I just did some research and came up with the driver blah blah blah. That is so lame.

We can still hope Nintendo is listening. They listened with Update 4.0, maybe we can see an improvement in 4.1.

They better! Now we have the capability. Now we need to be able to use it to it's full capacity. lol

i figured out the 1magabyte is = to 8.1 blocks and each song is roughly 200 blocks and so for an sd that is 2gb that can hold around 80 songs for rockband or guitarhero

...some things are update firneldy in game to an extent...for instance the rosters in Madden NFL 09 update when you connect online and stay updated when you then play offline.

I'd think they would have at least incorporated code for a 4gb though, I've seen people use 4gb cards since the wii first came out, even though it isn't 'officially' supported.

WHY NINETENDO? WHY CAN'T YOU HELP OUT AT ALL?

Is it just me, or do they seem to favor Neversoft to Harmonix?

Oh yeah, that's right, if Rock Band: Japan comes out, Nintendo is screwed out of it's music games.

NINETENDO GET OVER YOURSELF.

Others have posted this workaround, which worked for me. I have 2GB and a 4GB SD cards. My padded 4GB card stopped working after the update.

1. Start over by re-downloading a few songs to the 2GB card.
2. Transfer the data from the 2GB card to the 4GB card.
3. Insert the 2GB card into the Wii and launch RB2 to the main menu. While the main menu is showing, swap the 2GB card for the 4GB card.
4. Go to the Music Store and re-download at least one more song.

After doing this, I can now turn the Wii off and on and RB2 accepts the 4GB card. :)

There is one drawback! If I try to access the card from the Wii menu, it says that it can not use the card. So the good news is I can continue saving my DLC to the 4GB card without padding. The bad news is I can only use the card with RB2. You will need a separate card to use the Wii SD menu.

So has there been any progress? I just bought a 4.0 GB card on sale at Walgreens and I really do not want to have to bring it back and exchange it for a 2.0 when it's the same price on sale. They are both $14.99.

This 2.0 limit is really stupid.
