My replacement guitar arrived yesterday, so I thought while we had two my wife and I would play guitar and bass like 'the good old days'. The original guitar would usually strum down, although there was a few days where it would only strum up. She only strums down, so it wasn't bothering her. We had been doing drums n bass.

So anyway last night we get both guitars hooked up, pick and song, and start playing. About halfway through I see her meter dropping and it starts flashing. The guitar is doing the 'double down' strum again. She fails! I have no overdrive saved, so shortly after that we get booed off and lose 8,000 fans! She apologizes and asks what that messes up. I say it doesn't hurt anything. I then realize all this fan cap stuff is just crazy! Everyone is expecting to just keep getting more and more fans. No one is used to 'failing' a song and losing fans. Big deal. We'll just play another song and get some back. When we hit the cap, she'll try hard for awhile. If we lose too many fans, she can go back to medium for awhile. The fun part is just playing the songs. Most people have never been in a real band to see how crappy it can sound at times. You would get booed off the stage!

Anyways that was just a ramble about how fun the game can be without worrying about the fan cap. Think of it more like a band RPG...

I just wish I had two PS3 guitars.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows you lose fans when you fail a song.

That wasn't my point. We had lost fans before. I've just read a bunch of people crying about the cap. If you hit the cap (or even before then) push yourself a little. If you lose fans, big deal. I don't think this game was intended to be 'beaten' within a couple weeks. Play it long term. The fans will come and go.

I think the problem is that people didn't realize there would be a cap and thought they could play on easy/medium the entire game. Actually I remember a quote from Harmonix saying that the only thing you couldn't do on Medium was some side "quests". That, as it turns out, was a complete falsehood.

What, you mean you haven't found the hidden quest for slaying the Rock Dragon and saving the Groupie Damsel in Distress?? ;)

I was kinda disappointed when I got the end and it said

"Sorry Mario, but the princess is not here..."

I guess I'll have to try another castle...

... I wish that people would stop lying about this. Anything that requires more than Medium is a side quest. You can progress through the entire main campaign of the BWT, straight through to the Hall of Fame Induction (final "boss") on Medium. You can then take on the Endless Set List (plus game) on Medium. Everything that requires Hard is a side quest.

Have you played the game lately?

8000 fans lost is nothing. Once my band started touring on hard, we lose as many as 20,000 sometimes.

Unequivocally false.

Gaining fans after 2 hours in on medium requires you to move to hard.

Once you have hit the cap, all those challenges where you can choose to play for fans or money become ridulous because you can't play for fans when you are capped.

You may call those things "side quests" but alot of people don't...especially after laboring through a song with 1 medium and 3 hard/expert players get the buzzkill of "You gained 0 fans". Going on tour is about playing new songs, opening new venues, earning money for clothes, getting better transportation, gaining stars, and yes...getting fans. Scream until you are blue in the face that it's not important to you, but it is to many.

Please learn to accept others opinions as honest and valid even if they aren't shared by you.

It doesn't tell you that though.

We've had the game for about three days, and already we've hit the fan cap on medium. Hell, we hit the cap on easy inside of about an hour. If anything, you hit these caps way too fast. I'm gonna struggle on hard drums what with really only having just gotten the game, and my fiance has never really much liked the thought of shifting up to hard guitar.

Last night we picked up the jet, and while it opened up something like 3 or 4 new cities, most of them require getting more fans to be able to do anything there. Call them "side quests" all you like, but that's a pretty big brick wall blocking our progress there.

Something needs to change.

You can beat Band World Tour on medium. The Hall of Fame requires a certain amount of stars, not fans. Once you beat the Hall of Fame, the credits roll, therefore beating the Hall of Fame is essentially beating BWT. Then once you beat the hall of fame kick out all of the crappy people in your band who are playing on medium and go to Tokyo and Rio, that's what I did. :D

Thats not what we want to do... We want to play all the venues together... DONT YOU GET IT? Medium WONT allow this...

I play expert, but the other three band members only play medium and we only get together on the weekend if we are lucky... Which means we can now never progress... NICE GAME...

*Laughs* My wife and I are playing through as much as we can on Expert. Played the All City Song set in Chicago and failed out at 'Run To The Hills'. We lost almost 200,000 fans. Of course we're over 10 million, so it wasn't a huge deal, but the stakes definitely get raised as you go.:D
