So, I got banned for saying ****. That's right, ****, a few months ago... maybe a few other choice words. My question is, what's the point of a censor if you can still get banned for inappropriate language? Sorry if this is considered one mouth post away from a huge ban, but really, look at all these thread titles.

-Deleted at ban risk. :)-

...or are they just putting asterisks and not actually the word? I'm basically ...

I dunno. I've been censor bypassing all day and I'm not getting banned. But I also have a high dexterity bonus and thus I can avoid the "BZZT!" of the ban hammers.

You need to gain more experience points and level up. When you level up, put your stat increase in dexterity. Though, you need 4 levels before each stat increase and I don't know if you can find enough experience points. Pick up a weapon and help fight trolls or something.

Edit: Oh, and if anyone knows what the heck I'm talking about, you're officially a giant nerd.

Not anymore. No more minuses in 4th edition. They get an additional +2 to WIS instead.

Either way, my old 2nd edition/3d edition 22nd level Elf sorcerer doesn't care about measly -2's to CON.

And yes, I do actually have a 22nd level Elf sorcerer that i've been playing for over ten years, frighteningly enough.

4th Edition hurts my brain. That and after learning several iterations of D&D rules I've decided to stop learning them. People can play 3.5 with me. If they want newer than that, they can go away.

Advantage to this other than laziness? I have more money to spend on DLC since I'm not buying expensive D&D books. :D

4th edition is actually very much dumbed down. I bought it because a friend of mine wants to run a 4th ed campaign, and every D&D player knows not to turn down a good DM, since they're rare enough already.

That and some of the new classes from the Players Handbook 2 are actually really neat. I'm going to play an Avenger myself, a religious assassin who is an odd mix between a rogue and a paladin. With teleporting. Awesomeness.

When death stops you in a D&D game, you're doing it wrong.

Or you didn't bring a decent Cleric/Favored Soul. Which is still doing it wrong. :D

Based on 3.0, actually.

It's a good system, used to play a few games before my GM quit.

Not playing a Jedi character was a fantastic choice in that campaign... while others had to be all noble and goody-two-shoes, my scoundrel was drinking, carousing and looting. :D

hawkofva
04-01-2009, 05:15 PM
Yeah, I never run Jedi. My current character is a Scout/Bounty Hunter. I did Bounty Hunter for talents though; I'm a sniper, not a Hunter.

I'm also a GM, so that makes it easier.

That helps. I'm not running any game right now, had a bit of a burnout.
That and writing LARP scenarios takes up most of my time and creativity.

I'm a player in two separate D&D campaigns, though, and I'll soon be adding a Vampire campaign to that. I'm lucky enough to have a group of friends who are very much into roleplaying and who are more than willing to run games too.

We use 3.5.
I started on 2nd ad&d about 8 years ago, and when I got with my fiance, he had moved up to 3.0.
We then moved to 3.5 because it was a lot less broken (+7 to ac w/ shield for 1 min? And it's a 1st level spell ?Srsly? what combat lasts longer than 10 rounds lol)

But 4ed should not be called D&D. It's like saying Fallout is Final Fantasy. Yea, they have things in common, but they aren't *** same.
4th ed is like MMO via Table-Top for absolute morons.

3.5 can be really broken too if you really try. Our main reason for ending our longest-lasting campaign is that absolutely nothing is a challenge anymore. When a party of six characters drops an avatar of Orcus and about 100 diabolical cronies in three rounds, it's time to retire your characters and start something new. Our other 3.5 campaign is still going strong, though, but that's mainly focused around intrigue and city politics.

I have to admit I'm not as adverse to 4.0. As a combat system, it's fine. I'd even say it's a lot better than 3.5 in a lot of ways: fighters can finally do more than basic attacks each round, at will/encounter powers means your spellcasters will no longer plod along uselessly when they're out of spells, that new healing system works quite nicely, and emphasizing movement and strategic positioning is only a good thing.
What 4th edition sucks at, however, is anything that isn't combat... but fortunately, that part is something that any DM worth his salt can deal with himself, and that you don't need that many rules for. WotC only needs to come up with a slightly more expanded magic system that incorporates non-damaging spells that aren't ten-minute rituals, because that's what's really missing so far.

Don't get me wrong, I'd still pick 3.5 for a campaign with an emphasis on 'real' roleplaying... but for a hack 'n slash campaign 4.0 is fine, and possibly better than 3.5.

Really? my past DM musta hated our group, we would typically only be able to get in 3-4 encounters in a 6-8 hour session because our combats would last a good hour or so.

For modern stuff, I really like this system that Stargate uses. I ran a mission with it for someone who had no idea it was Stargate at first, since no overt Sci-Fi stuff occurred in that little prequel. Once he discovered a Ring Transport, he figured it out pretty quick (having Saddam Hussein in it as a Goa'uld didn't hurt). For a while though it was essentially just modern combat as a two man spec-ops team stormed a house.

I've been reading the rulebook for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay today. I'm sorely tempted to run a campaign. But that would take out the fun of watching the look on the face of the player when he rolls to be a Bonepicker or a Peasant HIMSELF.

To be honest, 'worthless' classes can be a ton of fun, though. I played a single game of WHFRP about 9 years ago and rolled a meek pedlar as my character. The most 'heroic' thing I did was disturb a daemon-summoning ritual because I accidentally knocked over a ritual candle while running away. Playing a coward can be tons of fun.

I played in a game named "Death by Doug" (he's my brother in law).
I rolled up a character who's total stat modifier was -2 (Mind you, "hopeless character" rules state you can reroll your stats when they are a total of +1) and it was the only character who didn't die during the entire 2 year campaign.
