View Full Version : Really Disappointed in N.I.B.

Alright. Just bought the new Sabbath Pack. And yes, it kicks major ass. I managed somehow to beat War Pigs on Hard with the Drums.... I'm still having troubles with the fast drum rolls.
But, that wasn't the song I was highly anticipating. It was infact, N.I.B. that I was drooling over. Mainly because of the Bass Solo in the beginning. It seemed like a joy to people who think that Bass is very fun.
I actually picked N.I.B. first, picked Bass on expert and wanted to hit this solo....
....There's no opening bass solo. It just starts with the guitar riff and whatnot.
Now, I'm really disappointed in this. I'm not mad. I'm not cursing HMX for this. I just feel kinda let down. The song still rules. It just would of been awesome with that solo. This is like Long Time without Foreplay to me.

The covers are alright. You can't really expect somebody to imitate Ozzy to the full potential. You can tell its not Ozzy, but it doesn't bother me. I know you won't really be hearing the vocals when you got 4 people jamming to these songs.

I actually think the NIB cover is fantastic, and I listen to NIB at least once a day, being as it's pretty much the anthem on metal.
And they redid War Pigs it seems, which is great, because the GH2 one kinda sucked.

I actually listen to more of the guitars/drums aspect then the vocals for cover tunes for Rock Band. Since you're gonna be singing 'em. They can be.... Tolerable. And the vocal covers for all 3 are very good. The guitars/drums are top notch.
But speaking of Vocal Covers, I can never forgive Neversoft for their vocals on Pride and Joy. That should be punishable by death.

I agree 99%. The other 1% is my disdain for the guy trying too hard to sound like Geddy Lee on Tom Sawyer. Of course, I'm a Rush fan so of course that would bother me, but wow. Geddy Lee's voice may be annoying sometimes, but even moreso is someone trying to sound like him and not even getting close to a decent sounding falsetto.

Lack of an NIB bass solo is disappointing, but I'm not totally sure that was in the original version of the song (disclaimer: I'm not a big Sabbath fan, so please correct me if I'm wrong).
Fortunately War Pigs should make up for it. Way better bass line than almost any of the other songs, including WGFA which is my current favorite.

I'm not sure if the bass solo is in the original or not, but I wish they had included it.
Sadly it may be another slight to my instrument of choice. =( I really wish Rock Band had a bass career. Some of the songs are downright wicked (and much harder) on bass -- check out "Run To The Hills" for example. It is cool they gave them a 6x multiplier, though, and the "bass groove" is a neat effect. Am I the only one that prefers to play bass over the other three instruments when given the chance?

Yeah, the meaning is unknown, Ronnie James Dio once mentioned the Nativity in Black rumor, but it's never been officially stated. Officially the name of the song is N.I.B. and that is all.

The bass solo at the beginning was originally the track before N.I.B. called, lamely, "Bassically" - it was part of a 10 minute medley of songs including Wasp, Behind the Wall of Sleep, Bassically, and N.I.B. - and they 2 were joined and some of the medley was trimmed down for the Vertigo release of the first album - it's pretty clear though considering the 6 second silent gap after the bass fades out - playing a fading out part would be a little weird in the game. I love that bass part, but I can certainly understand why they wouldn't include it.
Wikipedia says this on the name:
The name of the song N.I.B. does not mean "Nativity in Black". Tony Iommi said in several interviews that it is merely a reference to Bill Ward's goatee at the time, which was shaped as a pen nib.

I just want to second this one. The horrible rendition of Tom Sawyer has kept me from even attempting the vocals on the song and I used to sing in a band that did many Rush Covers.

It seems like that would be the other way around. If you can sing the part better than the cover guy, I'd think you'd WANT to sing the song and turn his vocal line off.
Odd thought here - is there any way to turn the vocal line off if the singer isn't playing? It might be pretty cool to turn some of these songs into instrumentals.
And just to add a comment on topic - I too would love to see some videos of today's pack. I figure I should use my PS3 to advantage by getting a two day preview of the songs before I buy them. Somebody help me!

One of my buddies had a similar misunderstanding with "You Really Got Me". He assumed that the Eruption solo would have been included as the "intro" to "You Really Got Me".
I think it would be great to have a download pack of like 5 or 8 "Sick Instrumentals" of things like Eruption - VH, Spanish Fly - VH, Bassically - Sabbath, Star Spangled Banner - Hendrix and other famous instrumental solos that have been used at concerts of some of the most epic artists in rock just to show off and flex their talent to the crowd.
I probably couldn't do half of them, and they'd probably need turned off for random assignment during mystery setlists to maintain balance. But damn... I'd feel like a star playing Eruption in between a couple other tracks during my 6 song playlist. :D

You know, I was just thinking,
why have Foreplay with Long Time, and the organ intro with Won't Get Fooled Again, but no Basically?

because those are master tracks, and taking those out basically ruins those songs.
plus, it saves them money and memory to make the song shorter

This Canadian delay has managed to save me more money. :p That was the part I most wanted to play. Now I really want another Black Sabbath pack,Supernaut,Heaven & Hell and Chlidren of the Grave.
I still want to see a Sweet Leaf guitar vid to see if it's the same as Cavemen Rejoice in GH 1.

Bassically is not included because it is a different song, though it would have been nice...
but, N.I.B. does in fact still start with a bass solo, technically.

I am not too impress with the pack either. BUT the cover is done nicely. I am glad the vocals don't suck.

Even if it is a cover and not a master. That still isn't good enough to exclude the solo. A better reason in my opinion why they would exclude the solo is because its the only instrument playing for how long. Unlike Foreplay/Longtime, 3/4 people are playing.
I am beginning to think that all or most of the Sabbath masters are lost. I'm almost certain of it. Since this is the 7th cover (if you count War Pigs and Paranoid twice).
But since it seems that its not that hard to get music from Sabbath. I'm hoping Faeries Wear Boots is really close to the top!!

I had never heard Tom Sawyer before this game. Then I went into a bike shop the other day, it was on the radio, I was like "...I know this song..." Then the vocals kicked in, and the words were there, but man, it sounded infinitely better than Rock Band's version.
