So I've been delving into the punk movement, and I loooovvvveeee it, but recently, I've figured out I've never heard a Black Flag album before, which among the circles I've been in, is pretty bad. Because I'm too lazy to look up old reviews, please RB forums, could you hook me up with a good Black Flag album to start out on? Any help would be welcomed.

Damaged is good. Unfortunately, Black Flag went downhill from there.

If you're on iTunes I'd suggest checking out Everything Went Black - it's a compilation album with songs recorded pre-Henry Rollins. Kind of a fun listen as you get more into the band.

Aside from Damaged (which I would 3rd or 4th the recommend) I stick to the pre-Rollins stuff and this is a good place to start. There's another 2-3 "early years" type compilations since essentially everything before damaged was EPs.

Depends on what you like. If you want some fast, agressive hardcore, get Damaged. If you want some slower sludge punk-type stuff, check out Slip It In. My War is sort of in between the bookends of Black Flag, a bit of punk, a bit of doomy stuff. But Damaged is my personal favorite.

I've gotta vote for the First Four Years compilation. It collects all of their E.P. material from their first three singers.
I just really really hate Rollins, and if you check out Everything Went Black, you'll find superior versions of almost all the songs from Damaged.
Damaged is still pretty good though, despite Rollins being their weakest vocalist.
Their later albums are a bit more metal, almost like punk Sabbath. Not as good as their early stuff but still pretty cool.

After Damaged, just get everything. Black Flag are one of those essential bands.
As for Rollins, I actually really enjoy his vocals.
