View Full Version : How'll this look on a non-widescreen TV?

All the screens and videos are in widescreen, and it seems almost kind of crowded with all 3 boards and lyrics at the top. But what about when you're playing the game on a 4:3 TV? You think it might be too crowded?
I don't have a widescreen TV...Though I do have a 17" 5:4 LCD monitor for my 360, and the game'll hopefully run in letterboxed mode on that...but even then, it's gonna be really small.

This is a very good question. The interface really seems to lend itself to a widescreen format which is a good design decision considering widescreen is the future.

Ouch, good one. I have a crappy small TV that works fine for all the other games, but this might set me back. Oh well, I can always get a summer job to buy a new one.

I always thought playing games on a small TV was fine....until I got the 50" Grand Wega HDTV that is in my living room now. I can't even imagine playing on anything less. Kind of like when you first switched from dial up to broadband internet connection.
I think on a 17 inch LCD my eyes would be bothering me within 15 minutes. God forbid you have 3 other friends playing at your house at the time.

I actually didn't think about this either, its a very good question, and I just have a small Tv for my dorm room, I hope I can play multiplayer on it easily, or play at all on it, I may have to get a new Tv for christmas.

It looks best on a big widescreen TV, of course, but we test everything on crappy little 4:3 TVs (for example, the one connected to the consoles in my office) to make sure it works fine on them as well.

Does it letterbox the game, squish/stretch to fit, or rearrange the frets?

If your tv is anything over 20 inches i think you'll be ok.
the only thing i think might be tough to see would be the lyrcis scrolling at the top.
In a lot of games text is pretty much impossible to see without an HDTV

HMX may just letterbox the game. Some devs do that for 360.

And what about online play? If online play will only display your own board and not those of the other instruments, then you could still play online with little difficulty. And you could possibly system link with your friends if they all have the game.

What I'm assuming they will do is divide the bottom part into however many intruments are playing. So unless you have a full band, this shouldn't be that big of a deal.
And if you are playing with a full band, just go over the persons house with the largest TV.

I just played the suffragete city video on my tv (through streaming my pc to my 360) and while it isnt a perfect conversion i got a good estimate of how it will be spaced out on my regular tv and it looked just fine. I would imagine if your tv is anything under 20 the game will be tough to play on but thats true for any game
also: how wrong is it that i also played the new MGS4 trailer on my 360
