Considering most of the songs on your poll I think are far from the artists best song this will get extremely chaotic

Tie for me between Heaven And Hell and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (and soon Bible Black)

There is no one greatest metal song in my opinion.

Pretty much this. "Evil" by Mercyful Fate comes close for me, but interest and mood shifting keeps its position from being solidified, much like concrete being mixed around so that it doesn't dry.

Ill go with iron man, if Im lookin at the greatest metal song, Ill go with a sabbath song, and Iron man sticks out for me. Hallowed be thy name at a close second.

For me, there's no definite number one. However, I'd say "Funeralopolis" by Electric Wizard comes pretty damn close. "Dopesmoker" by Sleep, too.

There is too many great metal songs to really say the greatest in my mind.

a best of list and there's 3 songs from one band? A little skewed eh?

I can't really name a single best metal song of all time. I like too many.

I love Elements man, Unquestionable Presence too. However, I just love the energy coming from the tracks on Piece of Time, and Kelly Shaefers does some awesome vocals here.

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath. I love that song so much

I picked Paranoid, just because whenever it comes on people always think "heavy metal". I'm pretty sure there was a trivia thing in Rock Band where they said Paranoid was like a Swedish Free Bird. Anyway, it's synonymous with Heavy Metal.

Atheist is just win in general although I like Cynic the best of all the Prog. Death Bands

I like Cynic quite a bit, haven't heard the second album but overall they are pretty good. Cynic didn't have Roger Patterson and Kelly Shaefer though, so Atheist wins for me every time.

I like Traced In Air sounds great and I prefer it over Focus mostly because the band incorporates a bit more Jazz, but yeah I completely recommend Cynic

so hard to choose, but from that list, i think ill go with hallowed be thy name. all those bands listed have too many great songs to limit to a simple poll, but that song is epic maiden at its finest.

No need to recommend, I got Focus back almost a year ago, just need to get Traced in Air.

My Last Words by Megadeth. It fits perfectly as the album's closer.

The Trooper is the best thing on the list, but I'm more into Fairies Wear Boots by Black Sabbath. Actually, most of The Sword's discography is better then what you've got up there.

Painkiller, Doom Over the World, Kathaarian Life Code, Unholy Black Metal, Alexander the Great, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas... All excellent songs, not deep cuts particularly though.

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
The first Sabbath song that basically started the heavy metal revolution. Most of metal's roots stem from that song. With the mood and atmosphere of Ozzy's vocals to Iommi's hellish, doom-like guitar rifts. That song, to me at least, embodies heavy metal as a genre.

Both the meter that detects sarcasm and the meter that detects awesomeness appear broken.

None of those. The greatest metal songs of all time are Painkiller by Judas Priest, Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, and Mr. Crowley covered by Tim "Ripper" Owens (Former lead singer of Judas Priest, the guy who sang Painkiller), Ronnie James Dio, and Yngwie Malmsteen.

You can't really say ANY one song is the "best," but a song I've been really into lately is Sweating Bullets by Megadeth.

Judas Preist has better songs than that.
One song stuck in my head thats metal though is Forevermore by Shadows Fall.

"Evil" by MF is a very good choice. Amazing everything in that song. I can't argue with that one.

I've got a 3 way tie, I don't think there is a "Greatest" song, but these 3 sort of define metal for me

Caught In A Mosh - Anthrax
Angel Of Death - Slayer
Heaven And Hell - Black Sabbath

so really, this thread is for the greatest heavy metal song of all time? you guys are discussing heavy metal exclusively.

as for me, i don't listen to heavy metal, so i wouldn't know.

Then why post in this thread. Judging by your user name, you could start up a best hip-hop song thread and get responses and sicussion based on hip-hop exclusively (and the answer would be "Welcome To The Terrordome" by Public Enemy)

It's gotta be a Metallica song, but I have a hard time choosing between Enter Sandman and Creeping Death.
