So, I'm building up my music (as always) and I'm looking into some...MEGADETH songs (as a Metallica fan, I feel pain saying that).
Any really good examples would be great. Already like some more basic songs like Sweating Bullets, A Tout Le Monde, Sleepwalker, In My Darkest Hour, and the Peace Sells album for example.
But I'm getting a slight bit more into Megadeth (again, painful to say). I would really like to hear more ballad like songs, a la In My Darkest Hour and A Tout Le Monde, any like that you guys can recommend?

Trust and Promises are good ballads you did not mention so I am thus recommending them. You wont find many ballads in Megadeth's library, however.

Yeah, Megadeth doesn't do full on ballads, a song might start like one but then it's Sleepwalker all over again. But I don't think many speed metal bands do ballads to begin with...

I thought they were counted as thrash over speed? Whatever...
Ahh, thanks Onslaught. I just love the Metallica ballads, so I figured I'd ask. And no, haven't heard those yet.

Well if we wanna genre **** speed metal is thrash metal without the hardcore attitude. It basiclly split in the early 80s into thrash or power metal and is considered a transitional genre. You can use speed metal interchangably with a lot of thrash material, especially the earlier works.
Unfortunately I like Metallica's golden age track 4 ballads better than any of Megadeth's ballds. (Fade to Black, Sanitarium, One) Megadeth you will go for the more melodic and technical guitar and drumwork.

Okay...
And yep. Metallica is still better IMO. I love songs like One and Unforgiven.

Metallica's ballads are better. Their thrash songs are really strong too (Fight Fire With Fire, Battery, Dyers Eve, etc) but Megadeth has more and better net average of thrash metal, easily, imo. Holy Wars, Lucretia, Tornado of Souls, etc...
I personally do not like Unforgiven because it is a vocal driven song. I like their melodic guitar/bass driven songs (Call of Kthulu, Fade to Black, Pulling Teeth) etc...

I like how you linked all songs played with Marty :P

Marty is a manbeast of pure sorcery. I would perform fellatio on his guitar.

Not weird at all...
If you insist, if I go to Japan for Language School you're more than welcome to come and hunt Marty down

I much prefer Jame's voice to Dave's. Dave's voice just get annoying as hell in some songs. I go more for melody and lyrics.
And as far as fellating guitars goes...Cliff Burton's bass... Pulling Teeth and Orion, FTMFW!

Not a ballad but Looking Down the Cross is my favorite song by them. Their first 4 albums are all absolutely awesome and the stuff after it is good but less interesting for sure.
Killing is my Business is one of the most energized fastest thrash albums you can find and probably my favorite of their stuff.
So Far So Good So What is a very angry and bitter album, works extremely well and is lyrically my favorite. Probably the album that would really be considered speed metal and not as much so thrash.
Rust in Peace is nothing short of pure genius often considered their magnum opus. Technicality to the extreme with every song (with the exception of Dawn Patrol) being very interesting.
Not too many ballads from their golden era, Loved you to Death is a love song in a way but not exactly what you're looking for. Check out any of the albums I mentioned above all are crucial to a Megadeth fan.

I think I'm one of the few who likes PSBWB over Rust in Peace. As mentioned you wont find much Megadeth ballads, unless you wanna count the intro of 'Good Mourning/Black Friday'

Peace Sells and Rust in Peace are the most essential. Most of their albums are worth a listen, though.

Megadeth felt, as a metal band, you were not forced to release any ballads. At the moment I have been exploring their albums and would say that you might want to give their first album a good listen.

I've recently been on a Megadeth binge. Pretty much all the essentials have been mentioned already but a song I really like off of Countdown To Extinction is Foreclosure of a Dream.

I think that the one with the most songs you'd like is probably Countdown to Extinction.
I never knew thrash could be so catchy.
