View Full Version : 1000's of DLC songs?

When marketting this game we heard several times that there would be not hundreds but thousands of songs available via DLC. Has anyone else noticed that at the current rate it will take about 6 years to get to 1000?

Granted, it has just come out, but to get anywhere near 1000 they are going to need to step it up sooner or later. We haven't had any word on when albums will be available, even the ones told to be available at or near launch. I thought 1000's seemed a lofty goal and it's seeming it may have been too lofty?

Provided the current planned DLC sells well, I'm sure they'll start to pick up the pace.

Yes, but the current rate is slow due to them working on bugs, getting units on shelves in the US, the European release and finalizing the PS2 version. I definitely think that we'll see more DLC early next year. You're forgetting that full albums are just over the horizon. Also, I'm expecting them to have some really big weeks from time to time, like the first week. I think what we'll see is a 3 songs per week MINIMUM, not that that will always be the number.

Consider yourself lucky. I can't even download the new content in Canada till Dec 20th.

No. Alex Rigopolous has said he believes there will be hundreds of songs available through DLC. Don't put words into his mouth.

Not putting words in his mouth...

That said, we have insanely ambitious plans in this area and we do plan to get literally hundreds of songs in the first year alone, expanding to what I hope is thousands of songs in the years that follow.

Don't try to dismiss my point w/out knowing what you are talking about.

Assuming they get ramped up to the (still conservative) rate of 3 per week, with the 4th week every month as a full album, that brings the number up to about 240 songs per year. I also doubt it would stay that slow, once development shifts from the standard pre/post-release issues and moves to primarily DLC. I still doubt we'll have 1000 songs within a year or two, but given time I can see it.

I just hope XBL gets an update for viewing all those DLC songs in a better fashion before then

Even discounting the ramp up time that others have mentioned, it would not take six years. They have put out 21 songs in 3 weeks, or 7 a week, or 1 a day, on average. That is 365 in a year, which means less than 3 years for 1000 songs. Some of use would like to be able to continue to get new songs for the next 5+ years and not have to buy a new revision of the game ever 6 to 12 months.

I think in this regards Harmonix/EA are doing a great job, even more so when compared to GH3s limited amount of DLC (6 songs in 2 months, since the 3 they just put out is more of a patch than new content).

Again, DLC is so much better than the alternative which is one game release every 6 months, and then you DON'T get to choose.

Now your building your own game only with songs you like... the songs work online as well, and do get integrated into multiplayer mode, this is the ideal that we've been waiting for!!

Great work Hnicks.

This worked for me:

It's probably not illegal, but maybe sort of grey. Many of you cannucks probably already have a US live account for getting the free gamer pics, etc. that they never release on the Canadian marketplace. If not, that is step one.

1. Create a new hotmail account and make sure you fill out a fake US address
2. Create a new gamertag on your Xbox, and ensure it is a US account
3. Buy a points card on Ebay made for US accounts (the 1600 and 4000 point ones)
4. Add points while signed in to the new US gamertag
5. Download Rock Band DLC (might I recommend the Metallica pack?)
6. Sign out of the US account and back in to your main one
7. Fire up Rock Band and enjoy your new songs

I wouldn't suggest trying to download movies or video content using this method however, as I've heard MS watches that a little more. Seems downloadable game content is okay though.

Took about 20 minutes including the wait for the Ebayer to email me the code.

I agree, I think they are doing a good job, but I also think that 1000 is unlikely and certainly not "thousands of songs" as told in the interview. And they haven't done 7 per week...they've done 3 per week w/ the launch pack being greater. They haven't produced The Who album that was said to be released w/in one week of launch. Doing better than the competition isn't enough when you don't live up to what you say...

You are putting words into his mouth, and trying to make up something to complain about.

Read what Alex said:

Read what you said:

See what you did there? You took Alex's plan for hundreds of songs (and hopes for more), and made it a promise for thousands of songs. So that you could make a useless complaint thread.

uhh............

he said there WILL be hundreds and MAYBE thousands. you that he told us there will NOT be hundreds but WILL be thousands........ so ya u kinda are putting words into his mouth.

and personaly after 300-400 songs or so, i think id rather them put out a RB2 ($60 for like 50+ more songs basicaly and an updated version of the game w/ more content).

EDIT: sorry didnt see electric-zens post rubbing it back in his face (i think i was writting this one when he posted his)

This sounds reasonable to me, although maybe 400-500 is a better number. This is of course provided the RB1 DLC is compatible with future releases. I think it will be since there would be no end to the uproar if it wasnt. However, if we are forced to buy new peripherals for RB2 (forced can mean new functionality with newer equipment as well), I would push the DLC for RB1 out a little further than a few hundred.

You are putting words in his mouth. He didn't say there would be 1000s, he said he hoped there would be. Read your first post, and then read the quote.

Edit: Zen made my point.

More useless whining. I don't have the link, but Harmonix was originally quoted as saying Who's Next would be available at launch. But nearly a month before launch, they revised that. Both on these forums and in IGN, they said that full album downloads probably wouldn't be available this year. They were not being deceptive, or trying to sweep it under the rug.

wow....very well put. ya i was gunna put 400-500 but i was like.....maybe that would take a while lol, i want RB2 to be out as soon as possible ;)

but yea new peripherals would be good/bad. bad cuse i gotta buy all new crap but good cause if they did force us to buy it then, like u said, it would probally have new feature (pray for a hi-hat/double bass peddle or a crash/ride/hi-hat pad elivate or sumthin)

Grey_Street, if the problem is that you have all this money for as-yet-unreleased DLC burning a hole in your pocket, you can always send it to me.

In the two weeks since the game's release, 21 songs have come out. This extends the original list of songs from 58 to 79, a 36% increase. I'd say that--whatever other figures you come up with--that's a pretty darned good start.

Wow and here I thought we were doing something wholly revolutionary. People do realize that making these songs playable (or at least making them play well) doesn't take 1 person 15 minutes? It actually takes an incredible amount of work by a pretty large team. And since Alex said that he hoped there would be thousands in years that hardly says that he means by July. Thread closed.
