Someone recently asked me what was the first album that I ever had. I think that it would be interesting to see where everyone kind of got started with this whole music thing. Please share what the first album that you ever purchased for yourself with your own money.
Sometime in 1980 around my 11th birthday (yes, I'm older than some of you snide little whipper snapper's parents) I used some of that birthday money that my aunts gave me to buy Dream Police by Cheap Trick on vinyl at the mall record store call the Record Bar. I cost me $5.98 as I recall. I literally wore that record out. It's now framed and hanging on the wall.
Anyone else care to share?

My mom used to have the same music taste as me so whatever she got I listened to. The first one I bought with my own money was Foo Fighter's The Colour and the Shape.

Kansas's Leftoverture and Deep Purple's When We Rock, We'll Rock, and When We Roll, We'll Roll.(Not exactly sure of the title, but it's a greatest hits).

My first album was "Start Something" by Lostprophets. I walked into an HMV and it happened to be the release day for that album, and I bought it without a second thought.

The first I bought with my own money were two at the same time. The Doors' self-titled and Led Zeppelin's untitled fourth record.
First I ever owned was Nevermind by NIRVANA, courtesy of my then-and-still best friend.

The Ghostbusters soundtrack.
For the most part, I listened to what my dad listened to: classic rock and hair metal. I didn't really start listening to the stuff I found on my own until around fifth grade (1995), which is when I bought Grave Dancers Union by Soul Asylum. I consider that the first REAL album I bought.

Queen's "A Night at the Opera". After listening to it all the way through, I came to the conclusion full albums are the definitive way to listen to music, and wondered why so many people just listened to singles. I had also realized from listening to the album that singles weren't singles because they were better, having loved "Death on Two Legs" and "Prophet's Song", which were really my first exposure to anything resembling heavy metal.

I believe it was either Bowling For Soup's "Drunk Enough to Dance" or Linkin Park's "Hybrid Theory". Either way, my taste in music has evolved a LOT since then.

With my own earned money, I think the first album I bought was Killers by Iron Maiden. I was probably 13 and it was probably 1985.
The first album I ever owned was Business as Usual by Men at Work and I would have got that in 1982.

(Jerry) Buckner and (Gary) Garcia.
I've got that one too. That album is always good for a quick laugh, especially the song about Frogger.
Anyway, the first album that I ever bought was Bad Hare Day by Weird Al Yankovic. It was on cassette and I remember reading all of the lyrics on the inside of the sleeve as I was listening to it in the car on the way home.

Songs for the Deaf by Queens of the Stone Age, still in love with the album but realised they have better albums. First album I actually owned but didn't pay for (present, I don't steal!) was Californication.
