View Full Version : Drumming problem -- Is it my drums or me?

I've been playing drums for about 6 years now. When on hard... playing "Run to the Hills" on hard, the opening beat, the opening section filled with 8th notes are fine. There are portions when it asks for 16th notes, and my drum pad simply can not respond fast enough to my two hand roll. It's impossible for me to play any iteration of 16th on the red, yellow, or blue. The green has been okay.

I played a song with a long "no drum intro" to test sensitivity and the red, sometimes it'll register, sometimes it wont. My friend says i'm hitting it too fast. At the end when you just "rock out", it SEEMS like the pads are picking up my rolls, granted i'm playing 16th notes one handed, but none the less, there shouldn't be a discrepancy to the pad between 1 handed 16th notes and 2 handed "8th notes" on each hand alternating. Should i RMA it or is it just me?

If it is me, any tips on how to hit those 16th notes or at least make them register?

Lots of posts on this. Do a search.

At this early stage, I would guess that your buddy is right that you are hitting too fast. I've found that to be the case for me on several occasions. Hitting too hard seems to cause a delay in the pad responding to the next beat as well. We might both do well to search as macafied suggested.

My friend says i'm hitting it too fast.

On an electronic drum kit, even a "fake" one like this, there is no such thing as "hitting it too fast". Your set is defective, send off for a new one, or try the taping-down thing that people have talked about in other threads.
