What are your effect pedals/processors used in music? Some of my favorites are:
Fuzz (Maestro Fuzztone)
Wah (Morley Bad Horsie)
Talk Box (Rocktron Banshee)
Echoplex (Maestro Echoplex)
Octave Fuzz (Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Octavio)
Leslie Rotator (Actually a organ effect, but sounds cool with guitar)

Flanger + chorus + reverb + fuzz = awesome. Effects in general are awesome though.

Fuzz tops the list for me. It just makes me feel all fuzzy on the inside.

I'm pretty much a humbucker straight through Marshalls guy but I have been a fan of RAT distortion pedals for a long time, particularly the RAT 2. http://www.ratdistortion.com/index.htm

Maybe echoeplex. I'm not a big fan of effects when I am playing, only when I'm experimenting with something.

Has anybody mentioned gain yet? that's kind of obvious. That and phaser + slight echo. And of course wah-wah.

gain's just a setting for overdrive. :)

I prefer the cleanest sound possible. Effects just get in the way of the music.

When done right, effects sound great. When done wrong, they're horrible, but I try to ignore the horrible ones as much as I can.

I also disagree. Clean sounds are great, but get repetitive after a while. If all the music I listened to had just clean guitar, then it would get boring pretty quickly.

Maybe it's just me, but clean electric guitar just seems boring to me. I always add at least a bit of distortion or overdrive in my playing, if nothing else.

cool idea for a topic, but I haven't had extensive use with many pedals, I've had both dun-lop and bad horsie wahs and prefer the dun-lops cry baby's since you can switch them on and off and leave it in a fixed position if you want. Distortion I've owned a cyberdrive by ibanez and overdrive by tube works, both are ok, I like the size and style of the ibanez pedal but the tube works had some killer tone. I've used a couple of digitech effects processor boards, those are alot of fun, and great for jamming on headphones. Currently all I'm using is a line6 flextone 3 amp with a few built in effects but it's really all I need, just need to do some tweaking to it, but I am horrible at tweaking effects and amp models with that many options. I've also used a few dan-electro pedals, the cool cat (flange?) and somethin else. I love all effects I've used really, except this DoD bass pedal I had once, fun to play with as a beginner but really useless, and it fried on me in less than a year. I like some ping-pong delay with stereo speakers and I bought a sustainer pickup once but it wouldn't fit in the guitar I bought it for, and I didn't wanna make modifications cause I didn't know if I would like the pickup or not.

I've had a thing for fuzz ever since hearing "Vincebus Eruptum", and lately I've been digging reverb, trying to get a kind of hollow, empty sound. I don't have any actual pedals though, so all my experience with effects has been in Garage Band.

There is no generic "clean sound." Whether you like distortion or delay or chorus or not, there is still something in the signal chain that creates the texture of the "clean sound" you like.
I personally do think that effects get overdone particularly when someone has one of those multi-effect units. Generally I agree that the simpler the better but there must needs be distortion whenever possible.

Yes, when an electric guitar has a clean tone all the time, it loses some of the instruments appeal of its varied sounds.

i think the main problem is that 99% of the multi-effect units on the market are downright terrible sounding.

Yes, especially the one's that most of us can afford. It is more unique and individual to search for tone using a combination of pedals.

I don't think that is what you meant in your posts, bro. Every post in the thread is about electric guitars. I couldn't let you take a snobby tone (get it, tone) and get away unchecked. I think I even kind of agreed with you that effects get overdone. What kind of tone do you prefer? What kind of equipment helps you get that tone?

Then you were way out of context with the discussion. Once again, I don't think that is what you meant. Even if you did there are certainly a variety of acoustic tones to be had. Why don't you express your opinion in a way that is relevant to the discussion?

I agree that there are a variety of tones from acoustic guitars, but there is not a variety of effects I would want to use on one.
I prefer my acoustic guitar clean over any type of effected electric guitar.

I play an SG straight through my Marshall but I played through a Fender DeVille with 4 tens for a while. It was very bright. I used a RAT distortion pedal because I like the filter knob.
